Stasis

The suspended animation technology that allowed me to survive until today.

Day ??

This entry is for something that hasn't happened yet in the story, but I'm hoping to build toward as I keep writing. It's a rough outline of what could come to pass. Click the button below to travel to this potential future, or use the top navigation bar to retreat to safety.
— Note from the author
  • nobody alive today knows how protag and other Travelers slept for so long, how they survived that sleep, or why they woke up when they did
  • possibly through working with another Traveler who's done some investigating, our protag learns the answer is Statis
  • it's a form of suspended animation, not dissimilar to cryo sleep or the like but not using freezing the way cryo implies
  • it had something to do with an injection and gas inside a sealed, air-tight container
  • the goal of it was to suspend certain people's lives until a designated future time, which could be after a specific number of years or after a certain event comes ot pass
  • it was very expensive and generally considered a luxury
  • the other Traveler may have figured out the gas and such by exploring an old "tomb" (stasis facility) and finding evidence of gas tanks and tubes to the "coffins"
  • they could have done this previously and we see them telling protag about it, or protag could join them on this expedition, whichever makes more sense
  • the other details (the goal, expense) could be snippets of memory from one or both of them
  • few stasis facilities remain accessible. in some that are (to varying definitions of "accessible"), human remains can sometimes be found in stasis chambers that clearly failed in their duty
  • Travelers are very lucky that their facilities remained intact enough that apparent failsafes kept them alive through the centuries
  • as for how/why they woke up how/when they did, there's only theories like maybe a time-delay mechanism triggered, or the stasis gas ran out, or some other system failed in a way that allowed for a safe wake-up
  • this first entry would likely end with neither Traveler knowing exactly why they were afforded this luxury

Summary

  • TBD
