This condition is seen primarily in umbramancers. Due to them invoking the Law of Wounds and damaging the world around them by forcing a wound both on the realm of shadows and the realm of spirits as they assume shadow forms and pass repeatedly between them their spirit is sapped by the realm of spirits and their body is damaged irrevocably by the realm of shadows.

Causes

The cause happens when darkness begins to seep into someones body. As the body is phased out in the realm of spirits the body loses its natural defenses as the walls break down and the body is corrupted.

Symptoms

Loss of skin pigmentation, tiredness, the fading of ones shadow, the loss of material substance, depression, bipolar disorder, shattering anxiety, nightmares and loss of reason.

Treatment

This condition is treatable simply by remaining on the material plane for an extended period of time. This will not remove the corruption or undo the damage but by waiting the body's natural defenses have the time needed to slowly recover.

Prognosis

The progression of the disease is measured by the remnants of the shadow. As the shadow deteriorates then the body worsens and the afflicted's symptoms become more and more pronounced.

Sequela

If someone does manage to survive this then they could develop into the Great Wound but due to the effects of the condition the damage usually kills people.

Any umbramancy practitioner can be afflicted.

Prevention

By not practicing umbramancy then you will be free from the problems. There are also wards and sigildry that can lessen the effect but the condition will always progress.
