Lionel Callahan
Lionel Callahan was the youngest child of Branna Callahan . Being only 16 years old when the Second World War began, he was too young to enlist, a fact that chaffed his sense of national pride and the innate need as a witch to do good.
Growing up, he was never able to master any of the spells and magics that his sister Deidre could, and hoped that he too would turn out to be a healer like his siblings Matthew and Amelia. However, it was not until the age of 16 that he discovered that he was in fact a necromancer, a discovery brought on by being visited by his brother's ghost at the moment of his death.
The discovery of his necromantic powers, and the traumatic way in which they were revealed, sickened Lionel and made him disavow anything to do with witchcraft. He pleaded with his mother and sister Deidre to bind his powers, and to ensure that he would never have a daughter to inherit them - knowing that any daughter of his line would also be a necromancer. Eventually, Branna and Deidre gave in and bound his powers, and cast a spell upon him that he would never have a daughter.
When his son was born, Lionel felt an immense sense of relief, knowing that his branch of Callahan magic would never be passed on.
He left Cape Otway after his powers were bound and headed to Melbourne to work on the docks. When he turned 18, Lionel joined the Australian Navy to fight in the war, where he met his future wife Martha Patterson, who was serving as a ships' nurse. They were married after the war, and settled down in Melbourne to raise their family.

Although Lionel was born a necromancer, because his mother and sister bound his powers by the time he turned 17, he was never able to develop or advance any of his abilities. After his binding, he was never again able to even see or hear ghosts, let alone any of the other more powerful necromantic abilities.
