Ubit

Small, vain, and greedy in the eyes of most of the galaxy, the Ubit have managed to turn that reputation into the idea that they are the ideal species of traders and businessmen.
The very fact that they managed to develop a society at all, let alone a Void-faring one, is a shock. Given the fact that their home planet of Xegrad little to no valuable minerals, metals, and lacks a sustainable amount of surface water. You either proved yourself a capable trader or went without.
While most other species would have attempted to seize those resources for their group, the Ubit lack the necessary...stature for effective warfare. And thus, a society based around traders and businessmen was born. Every scrap was bought, traded, and haggled for. every drop of water was gathered, bottled, and sold to the highest bidder.
The first Void-capable vessel the species had wasn't even made by them, but was purchased off of visiting Nasarian dignitaries.
Now they have spread across the Void, and reveled in the bounty of resources it provides. And the price they can be sold for.

Small of stature but not stout and strong to back it up, they are perhaps the most unfit for physical confrontation species in the known galaxy. Impressively so.

The Ubit grow quickly, though they don't have very far to grow. Reaching physical maturity around their fifteenth year, it takes them a few years more to reach mental maturity. Often until around their eighteenth year.

Ecology and Habitats

While the Ubit prefer a dry and sandy environment, like that of their home planet, they are no more suited to it than any other environment. Ubit born off world are just as likely to have a preference for the damp and cold, such is their general aptitude. They rely on their ability to acquire the means to survive wherever they are, instead of hedging their bets on their physical attributes.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Herbivorous, they evolved while eating berries. Which they, in turn, evolved to grow and of course sell to each other. Be it the berries themselves, the plants, the seeds, or the very land itself.

Biological Cycle

Old age is perhaps more damaging to the Ubit than other species, as the chemistry in their mind can fall out of balance, causing dementia-like symptoms. It is treatable in the modern age, but it is often seen as a part of life to most Ubit, and is simply left to run it's course.

Social Structure

Perhaps a meritocracy in it's purest sense, Ubit society follows and respects those that can make something of themselves. The most wealthy merchants, renowned inventors, and politicians with the largest political machines are the ones that are in power. Of course, power begets power, and those that are in it tend to stay there, but it's not uncommon for some individual with a knack for their craft and an eye for power to shake things up for a few years before it all settles again.

Ubit courtship involves, for the most part, lavishing a desired partner with gifts. Be it food, clothes, money, or any other material that might be bought or sold.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Interpsecies relations are rare for the Ubit, mostly because their societal ideas tend to alienate those that are not born to it. Those that do form such bonds are often....superficial. Considering how most Ubit view the world and those around them as a source of profit and power, relations tend to be closer to a...'suger-parent', one might say without saying.
