The Witch-Star Theorem

In our world, the stars were reached through science and exact physics. Careful mathematics and chemistry all around mundane materials provided the means to elevate ourselves from our home.

In the universe that we now gaze, however, that is not the case. Thiis time it was achieved through the breaking of the natural laws through magic and ritual. Magic, provided the means to the stars. Great ships were lifted to the heavens and beyond. Other planets, teeming with life, were discovered and with them other species who had managed to uplift themselves as well.   New species are discovered every day, creating an ever-changing and volatile political landscape. Each one clamoring for more representation for themselves, or less representation for another, or economic or military aid, or anything else they think they can scalp from the other races.

When negotiations fail, the dogs of war are let loose and weapons that can shake a planet to its very core and scour all life from its surface are brought to bear. Legions of soldiers struggle among star-spackled skies. Amongst trees that seem to sway like they were alive, or in between oceans of molten rock and metal. Their fighters and gunships fly through gas giants in a blind knife fight with the enemy.

Mercenaries and warriors can find work almost anywhere, and even the core worlds aren't always safe from raiders and pirates.

Despite all this...the peace, the war, and the in-between, life flourishes as it always has.

And things scuttle in the dark.
