The Sands
The vast majority of the Wild Waste is sand. Endless seas of the stuff, spanning in every direction, as far as the eye can see and then a little ways past that. The sands of the Waste are unusual, in that they are very, very fine. So fine, actually, that one would have more luck swimming in them than you would have walking. Of course, one would die of exhaustion or sink and suffocate before making very much progress in both situations. Despite this, very few who get stranded in the sands actually die of the above causes. No, their death comes in another, far more ravenous form. For below the surface of the Wild Waste lurk an uncountable number of ravenous, burrowing creatures which would like nothing more than to devour anyone foolish enough to fall into their domain. Most, if not all of these creatures are highly sensitive to even the most minor of vibrations, which more than makes up for the lack of clear visibility undersand. So as soon as one begins thrashing about in the sands, attempting to flounder their way to safety, they can be sure that something is not far behind or below them, and it is very hungry...
