Ghouljaw

The Waste is a haven for undead, but there is nowhere in it that embodies that trait more than Ghouljaw. A large city dedicated to death, blood, and excess, ruled by the shadowy Ghoul King. Few who live(besides lycanthropes) have entered this dreadful city and left in that same mortal state, and even fewer still could bear to tell the dreadful tale of that which they had encountered within.

Demographics

The city of Ghouljaw's residents, both permanent and visiting, are entirely undead. Their types vary widely, from vampires to ghouls to even the occasional wailing spirit, but they all share the common trait of having positioned themselves directly atop that line in between this life and the next. The one exception to this rule is for werecreatures, who are permitted in the town despite still living. The town's permanent residents are almost all ghouls and ghasts, as well as the tortured souls of the living brought to the town and devoured. The Ghoul King appears to be something greater than his name suggests, as he is far less decayed and bestial than his subjects, but his exact nature is unknown.

Government

Ghouljaw is ruled by the Ghoul King, who makes all the orders and oversees everything that is done in the settlement. He is in charge of making plans, and seeing that they are executed properly according to his wishes. He must do all this himself, as his subjects are generally far too bloodthirsty and dimwitted to be trusted with such delicate affairs.

Industry & Trade

Ghouljaw makes its money from tourism. Of course, that's a bit of a simple way of putting it. More accurately, Ghouljaw is a place where the undead of the Waste can come to revel, to eat their fill, and to live like gods, as long as their pockets provide their stay. Every month, the Ghoul King throws a massive festival that lasts a full day and a night. Much of this festival is dedicated to eating, and for this the Ghoul King provides captive humanoids, that his ghoulish minions have waylaid and captured as they crossed the Waste.    The guests do not waste a morsel, for if there is one thing that undead excel at, it is consuming the living. Blood is drained, flesh is stripped away, the spirit is drained, and soon all that is left is bones. Even those are not wasted, though, for they are used to craft useful items, given as trophies to the guests, or used to tastefully decorate the city. But this gruesome business leaves a little bit behind, the remnant of a being that once was. These broken spirits haunt Ghouljaw, as if its beastly residents and the horrible rituals that take place there weren't already horrifying enough.

Geography

Ghouljaw takes place on, as the name suggests, a massive jaw wastebone. The creature it once belonged to was clearly a fearsome monster, for its jaw is a horrifying business, with massive tusks jutting out, twin rows of crooked, gnaishing teeth, bizarre, jutting sections that must have served some use in combat. A vampiric scholar that came to Ghouljaw once remarked that it wasn't all that unlike a hippo's jaw, but such a ridiculous claim was quickly deemed as such, and the vampire was so ridiculed for it that he decided to cut his trip short.

Woah, that's not the kind i'd like to visit ! But still a nice read.   Regarding the use of living beings as livestocks, how does the collecting works ? they all bring something by themselves, or it's usually a business with slave owners or shady individuals ? Cause they probably need a frequent amount of exported living beings to 'live' or not go rabid. Ever watched the movie Daybreakers ? They have an issue like that (rationed blood). I fell you'd like it !   If they trade, what do they give to slave merchants ? necromancy objects ? promises of non-assault ?   Knowing more about the special exception of the lycanthrope could have some nice info too if the time allows for it.   Happy Summercamp !

I look forward to expanding further on this idea after summer camp ends, I'll definitely write an article about a group of manhunters who sell to the Ghoul King somewhere down the line.

I love that visual description of the place! I bet it looks incredible at night, too.
