Sensewires Material in The Wild Cards | World Anvil

Sensewires

Sensewires are used for remote sensing by Tarot users. Metal wires with a processed Wardstone core, skilled Tarot users can observe through them with a personal selection of senses. This isn't restricted to vision and hearing, it also includes intense emotions and lifesigns. A talented user could even notice when someone is poisoned. Some Tarot users would be able to do the same without Sensewires, but it requires far more skill and effort.   Sensewires are sometimes used for detailed observation, for example to observe a meeting room from a safe distance. It also is used as alarm system, to detect and observe assassins, conflicts, and so on. For example, at The Academy, entire Sensewire networks cover practically all indoor areas except Dorm rooms and bathrooms. This includes the Battle Arena, allowing staff to respond rapidly to injuries.   The larger an area a Tarot user covers with Sensewires, the less they are capable of properly sensing smaller details. As such, usually they focus on a specific sense. If they detect anything, they will observe in detail. This has been abused in the past, by having someone distract the observer first.   While extremely skilled users can even show recollections of Sensewire observations, this is not well known even amongst nobility. The great difficulty and limited recollection period make it mostly useless, but it is occasionally used as evidence.
