House Voss

The Noble House of aristocratic dark elves that first arrived in Zul and still act as the leaders of the dark elves in Zul. Exiled from Eren by their wood elven cousins, they seek to garner power by whatever means. Perhaps they may even grow enough to strike back...
Once exiled nobles from the verdant realm of Eren, House Voss has carved out a new destiny deep within the underground expanse of Zul. Led by the embittered yet cunning Mephis Voss, this dark elven house turned their banishment into an opportunity for reinvention, allying with the subterranean peoples of Zul and embedding themselves into the fabric of this hidden world. Today, House Voss stands as the paramount voice of the dark elves, their influence extending far beyond their initial refuge while their ambitions simmer just beneath the surface.

The exile of House Voss was a consequence of civil strife among the elves of Eren, a distant land across the ocean. Mephis and his loyal followers were cast out by their wood-elven cousins, forced to leave behind their ancestral lands and titles. Driven by bitterness and a burning desire to reclaim power, Mephis led his people across the sea to Zul, an underground region rich in resources and opportunities. Far from being defeated by his circumstances, Mephis saw potential in this subterranean world. Realizing that survival required alliances, he extended his hand to the dwarves and goblins who had long claimed Zul as their domain. Though the dark elves were initially seen as outsiders, Mephis’s charisma and resourcefulness earned them a place in this underground society.

When the dwarves and goblins began planning Darkhold, a middle-ground city for their races to live and work together, Mephis saw an opportunity to cement his house's influence. House Voss quickly offered their assistance, contributing labor, resources, and expertise to the city's construction and planning. Under Mephis's guidance, the dark elves positioned themselves as indispensable partners in the project, ensuring they had a hand in shaping the city’s layout and governance. The dark-elven contributions to Darkhold were numerous and strategic. Their artisans introduced elegant architectural designs, their mages helped stabilize the lava flows through intricate runic work, and their laborers worked tirelessly to carve out key districts. Behind their helpful facade, however, was a carefully calculated plan to embed House Voss’s influence into the very foundation of the city.

Despite his achievements, Mephis’s rise was cut short by betrayal. Assassinated by a rival whose identity remains shrouded in mystery, his death marked the end of his direct leadership but not of his legacy. House Voss, now led by a council of his most trusted descendants and allies, continues to wield considerable power as the representative of the dark elves in Darkhold’s council. And just as well, a member of the council will taught themselves as a head of the house worthy of leading the way, taking the reigns personally, though it's not uncommon for these aspirants to face strong competition or even end up being tugged right back down. While publicly championing unity and cooperation, House Voss retains Mephis’s underlying ambition. They remain shrewd political players, adept at navigating the intricate web of alliances, rivalries, and tensions that define Darkhold. Their mastery of subtle manipulation and careful planning ensures their voice is always heard, their hand always present in the city’s affairs.
