Xandr Javis Character in The Vast | World Anvil

Xandr Javis (zan-der JAHV-is)

Master

"I see a land without war and suffering. To reach it we must unite our minds and hearts for all of Kerekos."
— Xandr Javis

One of the two original founders of the Kerek League, Xandr Javis is celebrated as a hero of Kerekos and one of the All Light's Chosen.

Accomplishments

Xandr Javis is most well-known for founding the Kerek League, but that was only possible due to his discovery of Vein Operational Current. This discovery almost single-handedly launched Kerekos into its Golden Age of technological and cultural advancement, resulting in the empire Kerekos is today. He and his partner Niala Nor have four holidays dedicated to them, one in each quarter-Cycle, and every major settlement on Kerekos has a representing him.

History

Before joining forces with the scientist Niala Nor, Xandr Javis was a foreman at a mine in the Crys, then simply called the Crystal Forest. At the time, crysalline was valued for jewelry, and the mines came under frequent raids by other warlords. One such raid destroyed Xandr's mine and killed his family, including his newborn daughter. Forced to flee or be killed or enslaved, he wound up at a coastal facility where scientists studied the Vein. One of the younger researchers was Niala Nor, and while nursing him back to health, they began discussing the possibilty of harnassing the Vein's energy. Niala wanted to use it to try and escape Kerekos, certain that other lands existed beyond it. But Xandr wanted to save others from the fate he suffered, and convinced her to help him find a way to overthrow the warlords.
It turned out that crysalline was the key. When they discovered that it could store Vein energy, they began smuggling all they could from the Crys, slowly building a new vessel that could draw power from and sail on the Vein. They named this first voidship the Light of Kerekos, aiming to bring hope and enlightenment to the isl. With their ship, they launched the Light Crusade, ultimately bringing unity and peace to all of Kerekos.
In the aftermath of the war, Xandr used his leadership skills to form the Kerek League and establish basic laws of the land. Niala Nor was welcome to join him, but she vehemently opposed what was done to the Lightless and refused to join the League unless they were given amnesty. This disagreement caused the partners to drift apart, and eventually Niala set sail into the void on a new vessel and was never heard from again. Her loss caused Xandr great distress, and he left the League in the hands of the new Masters, retreating to a life of seclusion.
Xandr Javis died where his journey began, in a small cottage in the Crys that he built to resemble his family home. His final wish was for Kerekos to become what he and Niala dreamed of.
