Session 1 - The Herd Stalker
General Summary
Our heroes met at The Wandering Candle where they sought an audience with Lady Cordelia Beritan to take up a life of adventure to help Squall's End in its time of need.
Our cast of characters:
Immriel, an elven druid
Lassecanta (Las for short) an eladrin ranger
Roland Deschain, a human rogue
Torish Stonebreaker, a dwarven paladin
Tortleighni, a tortle warlock
They were assigned the task of helping Liam Gardson deal with the fact that several of his prize-winning sheep had gone missing in recent days. The Gardson Farm has for several generations been a supplier of fine wool to the city of Squall's End, and with no one knowing what winter will bring, sheep disappearing was a real concern. Wool may be a life-saving supply in the coming months.
The party sent out to investigate the reports of the disappearances.
As they approached the farm, they came across three workers who had been cutting down trees to extend the western road into the forest, the first several miles of which had been scouted by representatives of the city. Two of the workers had a third worker in their cart. One of the two workers pulling the cart had a slightly wounded leg from a graze by an arrow, and the worker in the cart was in much worse shape. With an arrow still protruding from his side, he was in danger of bleeding to death. Torish used the healing power of his holy touch to alleviate the worker's wounds, and after some conversation in which they determined the only thing that the workers saw was the tail of a deer disappearing behind a tree just before the arrows struck. the party encouraged them to head back to Squall's End to report on what had happened, while they continued with their appointed task. Roland investigated the arrow and determined it did not appear to be of the style the fletchers of Squall's End or the areas thereabout were likely to make, seemingly indicating a first, violent contact with some native element.
In due course, they determined that the flock was being preyed upon by a Herd Stalker and they were able to dispatch it, although Torish was significantly injured in the fight.
The session ended with the party sleeping in the loft of the Gardson Farm's barn, and discussing if they should investigate the assault on the workers further in the morning.
