Zul'Kaz

Wing Commander Zul'kaz

"A fool gambles. I play to win."
Distinguished Sirasion fighter ace, Zul'kaz is known across the galaxy as one of the most capable pilots when at the controls of a star fighter. Flying for the Sirasion Contingency, Zul'kaz has a long record of air to air kills spanning his extensive career. Some have even gone as far as claiming Zul'kaz can read the minds of his opponents with how effortlessly he predicts their movements before turning them into another etch on his kill board.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Zul'kaz is thinner than most Sirasions with his wings being slightly on the smaller side. However he is by no means below the standard of physical fitness needed to withstand the harsh g-forces exerted on him in a dogfight.

Body Features

Zul'kaz has smooth, aquatic blue skin with very few scars. Unlike most Sirasions who have various rips and tears in their wings, Zul'kaz has none. He is considered to have very standard features by Sirasion standards.

Physical quirks

Zul'kaz is known to have somewhat of a nervous twitch. He is unable to sit completely still for very long aside from being in the cramped interior of a fighter aircraft.

Specialized Equipment

Zul'kaz can most often be seen in his Sirasion piloting suit; a precisely engineered piece of kit which allows Sirasion pilots to go far beyond their physical limits in aircraft handling.    The V6 flight suit, which Zul'kaz wears, is equipped with eight 'couplers' which integrate the pilot's vitals into the computers of the ship. Sensors on the outside of the fighter effectively remove the obstructions of the fuselage, allowing the pilot full 360 degree vision. The suit also allows the ship to monitor the pilots life signs and administer performance enhancing and medicinal drugs  depending on the situation. it can also provide basic medical aid in the form of direct nanobot injection as well. The suit also severely reduces the negative effects of G-force when fighting in orbit

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Zul'kaz was born towards the end of the Extinction War. He was born into a wealthy family on Siran who, despite the oncoming surge of Rada during their final push across the galaxy under leadership of Bashi , remained far out of the firing line. Zul'kaz had a fairly unremarkable childhood, but his fascination with flying was something he had from a young age. His father, a retired fighter pilot, filled Zul'kaz's young, impressionable mind with tales of his heroism at the controls of imperial fighter aircraft.   Zul'kaz was set on following the path of his father and joined up as soon as he could to the imperial youth flying core; a group of similar, likeminded young individuals who were not quite old enough for their trial of adulthood yet. Zul'kaz spent a lot of time with the group, eventually being chosen as their 'squadron leader', in which he would coordinate casual flying displays mostly for the parents of the participants. All the while the war against the Rada raged.   When Zul'kaz was a year away from being eligible for his trial of adulthood he learned about the full extend of the war and how close it was coming to imperial territories. It was at this time he began to study the conflict, mostly from Sirasion sources. He was desperate to do his part and fight for his people. So desperate in fact he managed to lie his way into taking his trial of adulthood early.   Zul'kaz's trial was not the most remarkable. In fact he only passed with bare minimum marks. But this was all because he had his sights set on the fighter academy and getting out to fight the Rada as soon as he could. He very nearly was denied from signing up to the imperial navy, but the good reference from his old flight instructor convinced them otherwise. Despite this, the process was still a long one.   Zul'kaz never got to fight the Rada-tide directly, the final battle having taken place before he had finished his formal starfighter training which took longer than expected due to a number of factors, most of which boiled down to missing paperwork and logistical complications. This annoyed Zul'kaz, he felt cheated out of his chance to fight for his people. Despite this, there was still plenty of work to do as a new fighter pilot, with pirates and rogue Rada left over from Bashi still being a big problem in imperial space.   Zul'kaz quickly racked up enough kills to get him noticed within his assigned squadron, climbing high on the ladder and even surpassing some of the squadrons already established aces. All the time Zul'kaz spent on the ground, he spent it studying fighter tactics of the major factions and others, and when ever he could he would be out testing the capabilities of his fighter in space and planet side.   Zul'kaz was transferred to a more established squadron onboard the imperial battleship the S.I.N Godhand. However, due to the ship being of such a size and firepower, many of the battles Zul'kaz was involved in were large capital ship versus capital ship engagements, meaning less chance for dogfighting with other pilots and mostly the escort of bombers as they headed in to finish off the enemy ship usually stricken from taking a hit from the battleships star splitter cannons.   The young pilot still felt held back. However this was also at the time where the Sirasion Contingency began to form. Zul'kaz's base and homeworld both lay within the heart of Contingency space, as a result, his ship and fellow crew had to make the choice of which side they would fight for. The S.I.N Godhand opted to return to imperial space, Zul'kaz however hijacked a fighter and left to return to his homeworld, and thus the Contingency.    Zul'kaz was welcomed into the Contingency with open arms and was instantly put in charge of his own squadron onboard a fleet carrier which saw regular operations as the Contingency began their effort to secure their territory from everyone that was not Sirasion. Eventually however, the inevitable would happen and Zul'kaz was forced to fight against imperial pilots opposing the Contingency. This bothered Zul'kaz very little, as he cared little for who it was he fought, he even relished the opportunity to learn imperial fighter tactics first hand.    Zul'kaz's reputation only continued to grow, his face appearing on propaganda posters and he made various appearances at recruitment drives. Even the other major factions were becoming aware of his exploits.    When the war between the Empire and Contingency eventually ceased, Zul'kaz remained as part of the Contingency, having become close friends with the faction leader; Grand Admiral Var'tax. Zul'kaz was still not ready to hang up his helmet, so when the Contingency and Skaroniens began to clash in the core worlds Zul'kaz requested to be transferred to the front. He shot down scores of Skaronien and clone pilots, having been given the satirical nickname of 'The Scarecrow'. He often accompanies Var'tax on political endeavours, while by no means an expert politician, his presence alone is often enough.     Zul'kaz continues to fly for the Contingency against the Phoenix Ascendancy, however has expressed interest in being sent to take on the Alliance's Mjolnir Squadron, a request thus far has not been feasible due to the unstable peace that exists between the Contingency and Alliance.

Accomplishments & Achievements

This pilot has a vast number of achievements under his belt when it comes to fighter combat. He has defied insurmountable odds in the face of danger and has consistently come out on top, be it down to skill or luck. Zul'kaz has consistently faced down and beaten multiple pilots from all major factions in a dogfight, be it in training or in real combat.   His most outstanding achievement so far has been taking down a Skaronien carrier by flying his ship straight into the hanger, past all the point defence guns, dropping a payload of explosives which resulted in the destruction of the entire enemy squadron and caused a chain reaction that crippled the entire ship. Zul'kaz himself finds this achievement falsely earned due to the fact his opponents weren't off the ground.   Zul'kaz's personal favourite would have been an incident where his ship he was based on got caught up in an asteroid field battle with a Skaronien cruiser. He managed to single handidly wipe out the entire enemy fighter force as they came through the asteroid field in a six hour long nonstop dogfight.

Battle of Drek - 2246

During the battle of Drek, the Homeworld of the Phoenix Ascendancy, Zulkaz demonstrated once again why he sits at the top of the pile of not just fighter aces, but also expert tacticians. Zulkaz lead his personal squadron along with a combined unit of fighters and bombers right into the heart of the enemy fleet in a daring move to take apart their carefully constructed network of Albatross cruisers. Not only did he acomplish this, he  also took down the pride of the Ascendancy navy; the Dread Eagle, by destroying the struts that kept its devastating gravitonic weapon stable, as a result, many Skaronien ships were pulled into the gravity field caused by the weapon's destruction. Then, just as the battle looked bleak for the Contingency, Zulkaz and his squadron daringly flew into the bowels of the Skaronien battle station that threatened to wipe out the entire fleet. They attacked its inner workings and destabilised its central reactor, causing a chain reaction of explosions throughout the structure, eventually leading to its destruction.

Intellectual Characteristics

Zul'kaz is a calculator. His mind always thinking about odds based on his experience and that of which he has researched. If an engagement is too risky he will not get involved. This has saved his own skin and that of his comrades multiple times.   He is known for an almost uncanny ability to predict what his opponent will do before they make their move, some even going so far to claim Zul'kaz possess some sort of latent psionic abilities, which would make him the first Sirasion to ever have such powers. Zul'kaz himself refutes such claims, putting his prowess down to years of study and practise. It is also up for debate whether Zul'kaz has Zor'khan genes in him, this supposedly extinct subspecies of Sirasion being known for their incredible intellect.

Morality & Philosophy

Zul'kaz lives to fly. He cares little for who he fights for. While This pilot is a Sirasion and began his life as a patriot to the Empire, he was very willing to switch sides to the Contingency when they offered him a better opportunity. Psychological tests ran on Zul'kaz have shown his loyalty even to the Contingency is baseline at best, and likely if given the chance he would defect if the job on the other side offered greater opportunities.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Zul'kaz lives to prove himself, to himself and others. Everything Zul'kaz does is in the vein of showing everyone that nothing can stop him from being the best at his craft. He saw the saying 'There will always be someone out there better than you' and took it as a challenge to beat, a challenge that so far, he is fairing in promisingly.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Zul'kaz is known to have a fair few connections across the galaxy, including in several of the major factions. These are often people he has connected with through study and enthusiast meetups. Zul'kaz attends flying meetups when he can, mostly as an opportunity to expand his knowledge and stay one step ahead.

Family Ties

Zul'kaz was born into Siran's upper class. While Sirasion society does not tend to hold up family lines and groups, Zul'kaz's family was very well known within Siran's coastal protection agency, a group which patrols the coastlines of Siran's towns and cities to prevent large and destructive amphibious fauna from wrecking havoc in built up areas. As is custom in Sirasion society, Zul'kaz showed little interest in this, hence why his father helped him build up his interest in flight.
