Lady of Mists

The lands north of Gate Town
are full of wild natural beauty. In places of such majesty, the barriers between the Material Plane and the Feywild grow thin. To the inhabitants of these places, powerful archfey are respected at a level near worship. Among the most enigmatic of these beings is the Lady of Mists.

Physical Description

Body Features

As with many fey beings, the Lady of Mists is a creature of immense beauty. She is always surrounded by fog, partially hiding her curvaceous form. In truth, her body is made of mist, and any look and feel of substance is an illusion. Her eyes are pure white and seem to be brimming with unknown knowledge.

Special abilities

The true extent of the Lady's power is hard to determine, as she is not prone to showy displays. She seems capable of appearing and disappearing at will, and as she is not truly a physical being, it is believed that no weapon may harm her. As she is an archfey, it can be assumed that she can serve as a patron for a warlock, but she is not known to have ever done so.   Her most well-known ability is her unnatural sight. As with most of her abilities, the exact extent of her divinatory powers is unknown. It is believed she can see the Divine Weave, itself. This would grant her great, if still not infallibly accurate, powers of prophesy. As with most such predictions, her observations tend to be unclear.

Personal history

No one knows how a being like the Lady of Mists is born, and she certainly isn't saying. When humanity moved into her domain, she revealed herself slowly. At first, lost travelers saw the shape of a woman in the fog, or heard a feminine voice in the wind.   After several generations, the people in the area, who would become the clans of Eroch began to treat her with almost divine levels of respect. She fully made contact with members of these clans, giving them her guidance.   These clans, among them the famous Clan MacRaine, began turning to her for rites of passage for their warriors. She would test their wits, endurance, and resolve. If they succeeded, she would appear before them and tell them of their destiny. Once in a generation, when the warrior in question possessed true greatness she would grant them her blessing, elevating them above their peers.   The most well-known example of this is during the rite of Alda MacRaine. While she was undergoing her ordeals, a party of adventurers led by Eldain Mal'atre was following her. While they camped nearby the Lady appeared before them and spoke of their destinies, predicting both Eldain's effect on the Divine Weave and the sacrifice of Talm Six-String. She also appeared before Alda after her success and granted her her blessing, predicting that her one act of rebellion would change Eroch forever.   Even now, centuries later, she still guides her people. Even now, lone travelers in Eroch still see the shape of a woman in the mist.

Social

Contacts & Relations

The Lady of Mists is typically extremely elusive. She meets with all the warriors of the surrounding clans, but almost none of those people meet with her more than once. This meeting is treated as the high point in the lives of those affected.   The songs of the Erochan skalds paint a far different picture, however. They often sing of a terrible loneliness afflicting the Lady. She meets with everyone but these meetings, while full of meaning, lack intimacy. Their songs sing of her having a deep love for various mortals, but being unable to feel their touch. None know the accuracy of these songs.
