Deepsoul Clanhold

It takes no small amount of stubbornness for a drylander race to build a community at the bottom of the Dawn Sea. There is, of course only one race with this legendary amount of stubbornness: the dwarves. They have kept the home of Clan Deepsoul a carefully guarded secret, and none but their closest friends are allowed within.

Defences

As with most dwarven clanholds, the location is very easily defensible. It also has the added benefit that the mines are above it, and there is no place for a threat to come from them. The main entrance is out to sea, making invasion difficult. There was also only one tunnel leading to The Warrens, although in the recent attack by the illithid, far more tunnels were opened.   As the dwarves have a traditionally martial society, there is no shortage of defenders. Practically every adult in the clanhold can raise either a weapon or spell in its defense, and the military's warriors and mages are both effective and experienced.

Architecture

Each building is built with strength and longevity in mind. The walls and ceilings are carved from one solid piece of stone and the roofs are deeply slanted to deflect the falling rocks of a cave-in.   These buildings are more than just structures, however. They are all works of art. Almost every wall is carved in elaborate images proudly displaying both dwarven and clan history and accomplishments. A system of waterfalls an canals both pay homage to their watery surroundings and provide fresh drinking water.

Geography

The clanhold is built into a mountain at the bottom of the Dawn Sea. The entrance is a magical cave at the base of the mountain, and it quickly opens up into a massive chamber.   At the back of that chamber, behind several small residential and trade districts, sits the king's palace. Next to it, is the craftmaster's shop and the temple of Selai.   Several stairs lead up from the chamber walls that lead up from the main chamber leading to a labyrinth of mineshafts interrupted occasionally by a larger chamber that serves as a pasture or mushroom farm.   One well-dug tunnel leads down to The Warrens, surrounded by several more crude but efficient ones. These other tunnels have mostly been collapsed by the dwarves' magic.
