Slowwater Crossing

Slowwater Crossing is a stone bridge over the Slowwater, a river flowing north-west into the Schwarzsee from the mountains. There is a chapel and shrine to Erastil on the western side of the crossing, and a semi-wild orchard of fruit trees spreading across both sides of the river.

History

The structures at Slowwater were originally built as a monastery for quiet contemplation some unknown time ago, with an orchard to be attended by monks, spaces for worship and meditation, and a wine cellar. The site found itself abandoned some fifty years ago, and was restored back to function as a chapel for travelers through the region around twenty years ago by the former priest, Brother Marcus. Marcus passed roughly five years ago, and has been succeeded by Brother Iakob.

Chamber of Worship

Formerly a room for quiet meditation, Brother Iakob has converted this circular chamber into a space for the worship of any god the visitor wishes, excepting those in direct opposition to the mandates of Erastil. The inner wall is split into twelve alcoves, one of which is taken up by the door in. Of the other eleven, there is a simple stone platform roughly a two feet tall set below an unadorned glass window, with a kneeling cushion set before it. Three of the eleven spaces have been converted to dedicated shrines; one to Torag, one to Cayden Cailean, and one to Abadar. The other eight are empty of adornment and free for anyone to use.

Brother Iakob's Lab

What was once the brewery of the monastery has been converted into the personal quarters and lab of Brother Iakob; the old priest being perfectly happy to have his bed mere feet from his equipment. It contains a fully stocked and operational alchemist's lab, as well as a still and cider press, along with the various books, papers, tools, and miscellania of his craft.

Wine Cellar

A water-tight chamber, cool all year round, that houses the racks and barrels of alcoholic beverages that have built up at the chapel over the years, most of which are Brother Iakob's own brews. It included 9 bottles of wine of various qualities, a 75 gallon drum of ale, and a 75 gallon drum of dwarven stout.

Guest Quarters

Formerly the monks' quarters, this long chamber has four beds that can be isolated into cells with linen curtains, each with a lockless chest and small bedside table. The far corner included a copper tub for bathing. This room serves as Iakob's infirmary when he needs to provide someone with long-term care, and as a guest quarters for visitors otherwise.

Orchard

The orchard around spreads across both sides of the Slowwater river, and blends into the surrounding forest without an obvious border. It has grown semi-wild and mostly untended, with only Brother Iakob to care for the trees. Of the fruit trees in the orchard, cherries can be harvested during Erastus, pears can be harvested during Arodus, and apples can be harvested during Lamashtan. Brother Iakob lets people take whatever they can carry, so long as they don't harm the trees.

Notable Items

The chapel features a functional Altar of Erastil, incorporated into the stonework.

Brother Iakob's lab includes a Hybridization Funnel, Formula Alembic, and two Formula Books: his own personal book, and an old copy of the V.V.G.A. Primer. Iakob's copy of the latter is dog-eared, features heavy notation in the margins, and has the "property of" message in the back scribbled out.

Between Brother Iakob's lab, the chapel's cellar, and various over nooks and crannies, there is one dose each of the following potions: Potion of Cure Light Wounds, Potion of Remove Sickness, Potion of Sanctuary, Potion of Protection from Evil, Potion of Keen Senses, Potion of Ant Haul, Potion of Hide From Undead.
