The Legion of the Star Child

The Legion of the Star Child is an occult religious sect found within the Near East & continental Europe. Based out of the Levant, they travel regularly collecting & monitoring the dreaded Star Spawn. Through their contacts they are able to keep their business shrouded in secrecy.

Structure

The Legion is split into three layers primarily. At the top of it all is a secretive group of Archbishops drawn from the ranks of different Christian denominations, a handful of Imams from the Muslim traditions, and Chief Rabbis of the Judaic belief. Each is sworn to secrecy and they're literally shrouded in darkness to stop them being detected. The following is shrouded similarly but also act as the face of the organisation as appropriate, and are general terms only:

• Bishops, the regional leaders of many groups in a region.
• Clerics, the members that carry out the day to day running of the Legion.
• Paladins, the warrior arm of the Legion.
• Lay people, the general workers carrying specific tasks, such as messengers and spies.

There is sometimes one or two Acolytes who are in training for one of the basic levels.

Culture

The members are of many cultures, though many view the world as being inherently evil due to being corrupted by the cults and the monsters in it. They are well aware of the Star Spawn, and are seeking a way to overcome these disturbing beings. Most know that the majority are better off left alone and ignorant of the fact that the Star Spawn even exist. Their belief a child will be born with the power of the Star Spawn, yet look to use it for good, is strong enough, they will go to the ends of the earth to find the child. Either that or it's destruction if proven false.

Public Agenda

They are feared when encountered as it rarely happens at least openly. Most go about heir business in secret, and only snippets of information is gained here & there. Usually what is known would not fill a full page. Most people think of them as pious & aloof and are perceived as being excellent at keeping evil at bay, sometimes at a cost.

Assets

Being originally from the Levant, the Legion has a number of buildings & hidden treasuries spread throughout this region. Many safehouses, warehouses, alchemical & magic laboratories, religious building and training lodges are found there. All of them are hidden in plain sight and usually affiliated or attached to larger or more well-known churches, mosques & synagogues. Each has hidden stockpiles of treasure for use and also contains a room full of weapons, armour & other equipment. They have smaller versions outside the Levant as & where necessary, spread into surrounding regions with western Europe being a major region now where these are becoming more common. They are also starting to spread into the Indian subcontinent & the Far East while they make allegiances with other religious organisations.

History

Started a number of decades ago when the Star Spawn and their masters the Star Gods started to reawaken, the Legion found a strange reference in an old grimoire that one day a child would be born to a mortal. It stated that this child would be born with the knowledge of the Star Gods, and many of their abilities. When discovered, the Order of St Benedictine started to set up a group specifically devoted to searching for this child and finding information about these gods. They became a secretive branch of the Order even to the overall members. They knew the dangers of going against this and started to work with other churches to pool resources, as well as the Muslim & Jewish faiths. Over time, they have realised that many other religions have skills & knowledge that is useful to the group and have started to work closely with them. Spreading out, they have developed methods of tracking Star Gods and their horrific spawn. They have also made contacts in other organisations such as the Ulmist Inquisition.
