Odeya Xwíné
The Odeya Xwíné is an ancient building hidden away in the Turkic region between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. Locally mentioned by the different Turkic peoples and their ancient Kurgan peoples who inhabit the are as the Chamber of Blood , it holds a dark secret. Given over to stories of cursed blood oozing out to terrorise the surrounding area it seems to date back to earlier times.
Purpose / Function
The Odeya Xwíné was originally built by an ancient dumping ground for failed vampiric creatures that were bricked in and far away from the core settlements of the vampire nation found throughout the Middle East. It was also close enough to be monitored by them to make sure nothing escaped drawing attention to the main settlements. They also used it to test potential traits that appeared in the failed creatures that could potentially be exploited at a later date.
Alterations
Only one alteration was ever made and that was the permanent blocking of the entrance at the fall of the Vampire nation and other sapient species moved in to the region. Then it was covered so nothing could theoretically find it.
Architecture
Carved and built out of block similar in design to the other Sumerian buildings of stone, it still bears many of the trademark stonework.
Defenses
None. The only defence was the hiding of it as no-one ever really wanted to open it when sealed up.
History
Created in the early days of the Sumerian Empire, the Vampire Nation had to create a building to hide any "mistakes" that came about due to their dietary habits and in a few instances, experimentations in breeding & magically creating new strains of vampirism. Obviously there was also the odd instance of the effects of creating vampire spawn & feeding on mortals, and even on other immortal / undead entities that created abominations in the eyes of the Pureblood Vampire clans.
Not wanting these released into the world the Elders of the nation knew that if these creatures were encountered, then mortals and others would look to hunt down where these came from. Secrecy being one of the vampire traits that they highly value, they created this building to store the abominations while examining them and learning what went wrong while looking for either cures or advantageous traits.
Built at the edge of the northern territories if not slightly beyond it prevented any locals in the Sumerian Empire from finding it, and the terrain ranging from flat grassland & mountainous with water features nearby, allowed for it to be hidden easily enough. Worse came to worse it could easily be hidden or destroyed if need be. If this happened it could be classed as a natural disaster burying the evidence under tons of natural features.
Unfortunately,, the Sumerian Empire didn't survive and others came taking over and with different beliefs, who also sought to exterminate anyone who practised blood rituals of any kind. Thus it started to fall in to some disrepair and wasn't maintained fully. Also, other tribal groups like the Kurgan & Turkic horse tribes started to gain a major foothold here leading to further problems.
The Vampire Nation used magic to fully seal the entrance with heavy stone blocks and surrounding terrain. In doing so, some of the magic seeped in and leeched into the abominations below. Leading to some extreme effects and a lack of "fresh" food, led to unforeseen effects. Over time the vampiric abominations assailed each other feasting on one another. The abominations fell one by one over the intervening years and most turned to dust.
Very little was left until the turn of the millennium when a scouting party of the Necrocult found the damaged entrance. Opening it they found a couple of strange almost liquified remains of vampire abominations. Classing them as a lost cause they resealed it, and cast spells to flood what is now a tomb.
In doing so the strange magical energies used by the vampires, then the Necrocult attracted the attention of a few dark gods of vermin and death. Seeing the chance to release a new potential threat to the living world, the remains of these two abominations mutated into two large oozes made of the liquified remains of both that absorbed the dust of ages and vampires creating to horrific new creatures. So far these haven't escaped but like many oozes they have budded off into smaller versions of themselves.
Some of these have managed to escape into other underground spaces in the Underdark where the building has fallen into extreme disrepair. It is only a matter of time before more are found and some make it to the surface world. And Hell may follow as these will feed on anything that has blood or equivalent.
