Hag's End Settlement in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Hag's End

Hag's End is a city in the loosest term possible. If anything it is a loose conglomeration of buildings bearing no true structure. Buildings are on top of one another, others are attached by large chains to the ground & each other, some appear larger than others, while some appear too small. Each building is cobbled together from wood, stone and other stranger materials, such as bones, ice blocks, lumps of mud, living trees, weird materials drawn from other dimensions, the list is endless. They are constantly shifting making it difficult if near impossible to find the same building twice. If anything it seems to exist in it's own pocket dimension, and regions of each part of the city seem to follow strange patterns of terrain too, such as ice & snow bound areas, swamps, forests, mountains & hills to name a few. Each of these regions is inhabited by a specific type of hag.   One constant is the citadel at the heart of the city. There, thirteen hags, all of them grannies live as a council ruling over all hags, 26 aunties serve under them enforcing their will, and waiting for their chance to ascend to the council above. Above all these is the most infamous of all hags, the vile being known as Baba Yaga, the first hag, the mother of abominations as she is sometimes called.   The city is home to all the kinds of hags known, and is ancient in the extreme, being created by Baba Yaga after her and her children were thrown out of the Feywild. She, and her children scheme here when not causing havoc in the Material Plane. Also, there is a large amount of Hexbloods, training to become full-blooded hags, or working with the hags in other capacities. With the volume of hags and their ilk, the city is a sprawling metropolis miles across, and to a degree, up too.   Most mortal races have never heard of this city let alone been there, and no-one except the desperate would truly go there. A few do, as many hags store the details of their bargains here, with copies being made for storage in the citadel. Also, any hag can come & go freely in the city limits, though can only enter the citadel or another hag's house by invitation only. The only known entrance is somewhere in the wilderness of eastern Europe, constantly moving and only known outside of hag circles by a select few shamans. It is found in Baba Yaga's hut that moves on large chicken legs.
