Gnomes are found primarily in Europe, especially in Western Europe, and regions were once there were Celtic peoples. They seem to share some connection to the Fey, both biologically, and linguistically. They are a small people, only standing 3 to 4 ft tall, and weighing on average 40 lb. Their walking speed is 25. Able to see in the dark, they have Darkvision at 60 ft, and they have as a species Gnome Cunning (they have advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma saving throws against magic). They ages the same as humans though they usually are settled adults at about 40, and can live up to any where between 350 to 500.   Rock Gnomes have a natural inventiveness and hardiness compared to other gnomes. They have an ability score increase of Constitution of +1 (already included in Ability Scores). With them constantly inventing and working on all matter of items, they have Artificer's Lore (when making an Intelligence (History) check related to magic items, alchemical objects, or technological devices, they can add twice their proficiency bonus, instead of any proficiency bonus they already have). They are natural Tinkers, having proficiency with artisan's tools (tinkers' tools). Using these tools, spending 1 hour and 10 gp worth of materials allows construction of a clockwork device (AC5, 1 hp). The construction ceases to function after 24 hours (unless 1 hour is spent repairing it to keep the device functioning), or when an action is spent dismantling it. When this happens the components can be reclaimed. Up to three devices can be produced and active at any one time. The following can be built:

  • Clockwork Toy. This toy is a clockwork animal, monster, or person, such as a frog, mouse, bird, dragon, or soldier. When placed on the ground, the toy moves 5 ft across the ground on each of the Gnome's turns, in a random direction. It makes noises appropriate to the creature it represents.
  • Fire Starter. This device produces a miniature flame, which can be used to light a candle, torch, or campfire. Using this device requires one action.
  • Music Box. When opened, this music box plays a single song at a moderate volume. The box stops playing when it reaches the song's end or when closed.
