Ein Sof Choshek Character in The True Dark Ages | World Anvil

Ein Sof Choshek

Ein Sof Choshek is a truly terrifying being, one that exists in the absence of light literally & figuratively. It is a being of pure nightmare whispered of in only the most corrupt grimoires not related to the Star Spawn.

Personal history

Calling Ein Sof Choshek ancient would be an understatement. Believed to have been formed at the same time as the Void & the Abyss. The latter was far older than the Nine Hells, and both it & the Void existed since the first gods appeared and shaped the heavens & hells to their liking. When the gods created the heavens, hells, and eventually the Material Plane, they had created a number of soulless or warped creatures they didn't want to release into any of these Planes. In doing so, they banished these creatures into the Abyss to be looked after by Choronzon, the Watcher of the Abyss. Unbeknownst to them, and even Choronzon, Ein Sof Choshek had been waiting and watching. Hungry, and with a part of it born of the Void, it was insatiable feeding on these off-casts growing stronger of what morsels to could while other parts were sucked into the Void. Choronzon noticed and tried to stop it, but couldn't prevent it being able to slip out of the Abyss.   When Kali and her two sisters were born in the Void some time before this, they had no knowledge of such a creature. When she found out of it, she tried to fight it, and barely managed to banish it back. It escaped again, and now drawn to the Material Plane where life is abundant and a speck of many gods are found in utter billions of lives over multiple planets. It was drawn though, to one in particular, to Earth. There it found some ancient races and started feeding, only taking what it needed and found that all of it's kills are much much more sweeter when it's victims are in terror upon death. The unseen nature of it for many makes it almost impossible to fight against it. And so it has survived.   Eventually, it found it could slip between dimensions, and regularly travels between the Abyss & Earth. It even has found it can slip into the Void, though it cannot stay long there, and has found the Black Pyramid after millions of years of hearing rumours about the latter. It now spends a great deal of time there, teaching a few the darkest of magics. It ventures out once in a while to feed by sucking the lifeforce out of it's victims. This it does on those it does not find worthy of the magic it teaches. When it moves it sticks to the shadows and the darkness of night, and can't be seen in daylight that it detests. It also refuses to enter any holy site unless it is there to cause damage to the holy site.   A note to the magic it teaches, is that the spells & rituals are truly disturbing. The majority of dark magic users are even appalled by the methods used. Sacrifice in it's name is common and corruption during the sacrifice & of the remains are regular afterwards too. All must be done in the minimal of light if any, and if some are done right will summon it to give a 'blessing' to the caster.

Intellectual Characteristics

Ein Sof Choshek appears to be highly intelligent and capable of mimicking any sound it hears. It seems to be able to guess the fears of it's prey and uses it to terrify it's victims. Knowing it is made of pure darkness it prefers places & times that relate to this.

Morality & Philosophy

To say that Ein Sof Choshek is devoid of all forms of morality is an understatement at best. All it lives for is the total annihilation & to feast of all other forms of life. How it plans to achieve this is unknown, but sooner or later it may act out some underlying plan if it has one at all. It seems to want to turn the whole Multiverse back to a primordial Abyssal Void.
"I've of such a creature. Think it was the Jewish Kabbalists that first mentioned it somewhere. Can't say they know too much themselves about it. Whatever it is, it's dangerous, really dangerous. They say it could suck out the soul of a god and leave it a husk. That's all I heard about the Ein Sof Choshek."   Father Tossil talking to a group of demon hunters.
