Richard Pettiford
Richard is the writer of a series of graphic novels about Blast Bolton, in which he also appears as a character.
Richard makes the graphic novels with his roommate, Jonathan Christmas, the only person who is an even bigger mystery than Richard. Nobody knows from where either of them comes, how old they are, and what they do besides making graphic novels.
Richard is often depicted wearing jeans cutoffs, a tank top, and furry boots and is blonde. He gestures a lot with his hands, and at one point Blast makes a comment about Richard being effeminate, and Richard goes on a rant about there being nothing wrong with being effeminate, and how he despises “all those men on Grindr who puts ‘No fems’ on their profiles.” Richard makes a lot of other pop culture references in the graphic novels that confuses the other characters, mentioning things like “Star Trek”, “Star Wars”, “Battlestar Galactica”, “Doctor Who”, “Torchwood”, “Harry Potter” and “Game of Thrones” to mention a few. He doesn’t offer much of an explanation about what those things are.
Richard is also depicted as having a small Portable Folder strapped to his left wrist, even in The Adventures of Space Marshal Blast Bolton, Vol 1 long before portable folders were developed, and even in 2955 SE there are no portable folders that small. It appears that he’s able to use his portable folder to step from the surface of one planet to another, which isn’t possible with current folder technology in 2955. There’s a theory that there may be a future upgrade to the technology that enables stepping from one planet, or moon, to another and some claim that this upgrade would also make time travel possible and that Richard Pettiford is actually a time traveler, who hasn’t even been born yet. When Blast confronted Richard with the possibility that he was a time traveler he laughed it off, made a few jokes, that nobody got, because they didn’t understand they didn’t understand the references he made, mentioning something called a TARDÍS, a DeLorean with a flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawats, and how the two original Terminator movíes were entertaining, but “It couldn’t happen because Skynet and John Connor only exists through bootstrap paradoxes.” By that time Blast just said that he was sorry he asked.
