Personal history
Gnori is the son of a Petty Noble family - the lowest rank of nobility. His family all work in the Demon King’s Castle in various roles, mostly low-level positions considered suitable to their rank.
Gnori was no exception, joining the Castle Guard as soon as he came of age. He enjoyed the work, but had a bad reputation for his tendancy to yell and speak his mind. As such, he was usually put on guard duty in remote locations or outside the walls as punishment for offending higher-ranking nobles. This ended up working in his favor - mostly in that it put him in a position to save the life Exkelm - the goniarch of a Major Noble family - from an assassination attempt. When asked why, Gnori said it was their family's long history of loyalty to the Demon King, which he admired.
This led to him being invited to the salons of one of their children in thanks. Gavven took a real liking to the loud man, and the two became fast if odd friends. This also improved Gnori's standing in the guard, and he began rising through the ranks.
When Jurao Ascended to Demon King, Gavven encouraged Gnori to interview for the position of Captain of the Guard, despite Gnori's misgivings about actually being appointed.
He was, however - learning afterward that Jurao had chosen him due to the recommendation of Gnori's predecessor. Although he had a tendency to yell when expressing himself, he was fair and level-headed - qualities the previous Captain believed made him well-suited for the job. Gnori had been moved by this, having always believed the previous captain hated him. It made him determined to live up to her expectations as her successor.
