Saints' Medals

Those with The Talent often wear saints' medals, even if they are not Catholic, to denote some sort of specialization or affiliation. Those who are not Catholic may wear the symbol of a saint (such as St. Katherine of Alexandria's wheel or St. Patrick's shamrock or St. Michael's sword) as a pendant.   These medals can be of any material, but typically are of metal, often pewter. They need not be magical, though some mages use a saint's medal as a Focus. A medal used as a Focus will typically be of finer materials and workmanship.

Significance

The picture or symbol of different saints mean different things. Common saints include
  • St. Helen the Talented (or St. Helen's Cross, a sun with wavy arms, quartered by a cross): worn by mages generally
  • St. Michael the Archangel (or his sword): worn by the Seraphim, especially those who have defeated or assisted in the defeat of a demon or devil
  • St. Patrick of Ireland (or his shamrock or snakes): worn by those who have the natural ability to speak with animals
  • St. Francis of Assisi: often worn by those who work with animals
  • St. Katherine of Alexandria (or her wheel): often worn by Talented scholars and scientists
  • St. Barbara (or her tower): often worn by those who work with weather magic or electrical magic
  • St. Brigid of Ireland: worn by those who work magic through cooking or food (or sometimes, poetry)
  • St. Cecelia (or her organ or lute): worn by those who practice magic through music
