The ascencion of Bane to godhood resulted in the Century of Strife, where the new god began an attempt to conquer Faerun using the mind-controlling power of the Banesmark. Ultimately, Bane was defeated, and nearly all traces of the Banesmark were removed from history by the Hand of Mana.
