Monster's Eve

Monster's Eve is an annual holiday, celebrated in Saltmarsh on the 21st of Marpenoth. The day commemorates the day Xolec the vampire was defeated and buried.

History

On the 21st of Marpenoth 1400, Xolec the vampire was defeated by members of the Order of the Gauntlet and Saltmarsh's Mariners and sealed away. In celebration, the Marshers dressed as the vampire himself to mock him. Over the years, this ritual began expanding to a wide variety of monsters and creatures, symbolically showing that they have no hold over the Saltmarsh.
In 1496, Monster's Eve was interrupted by Gideon Mistmoor, the disaffected former apprentice of the town wizard Keledek. Gideon used a Wand of True Polymorph to transform most Marshers into their costumes, becoming monsters that served him. Gideon also destroyed the Haunted Mansion of Saltmarsh, replacing it with his childhood home. However, Gideon was defeated by the Heroes of Saltmarsh, who transformed all the townsfolk back, and killed by a vengeful Keledek.

Execution

Monster's Eve is celebrated officially once the sun goes down. Then, all the people of Saltmarsh dress up as monsters or other creatures, typically wearing homemade costumes. The people of town then go door to door, asking for and giving out candy.
