Bullywug Hunt

The Bullywug Hunt is a ritualistic event for the Lizardfolk of the Scaly Death Tribe wherein participants are given a set time frame to kill as many bullywugs as they can. This ritual has fostered a generational hatred between the Scaly Death Tribe and most bullywug tribes.

History

In Tarsakh of 1492, the Breadwinners participated in a Bullywug Hunt, hosted by the Scaly Death Tribe's new chief, Snapjaw. The Breadwinners were declared the hunt's winner after killing a score of bullywugs and a froghemeth, that was guarding Yssondreneth's Tomb. The adventurers used their boon to spare the life of Bloodfang Wellington, who was condemned to death by Chieftain Snapjaw for prematurely killing Pharblex Splattergoo.   In Nightal of 1496, the Heroes of Saltmarsh were invited to join a Bullywug Hunt after they slew the dragon Voaraghammanthar, but the group declined, citing their need to return to Saltmarsh.

Execution

All participants in the hunt line up at dawn of the chosen day. At the signal of a horn, they are allowed to break free and hunt their prey, though they must return before dusk to claim their prize. Traditionally, a piece of each slain bullywug is required for verification of death, such as a tongue, hand, or other body part.   Upon nightfall, the tribe's chieftain decides the winner and rewards them with a boon of their choosing.   Though outsiders rarely take part in Bullywug Hunts, it is not unheard of for them to be invited, should they have previously impressed the tribe.

Participants

The Bullywug Hunt is overseen by the tribe's chief, who does not participate. Instead, the chief serves as the judge for the competition, rewarding the slayer of the most bullywugs with a boon of their choosing.
