Blood War

The Blood War is an ongoing conflict between the devils of the Nine Hells and the demons of the Abyss. While it started in prehistory, it shows no signs of ending any time soon, and there are many that would prefer it not to, believing that should one side emerge victorious, then the brunt of their aggression would be directed to the other planes.
While the tide of the Blood War often changes, at times favoring Hell and other times the Abyss, the bulk of the fighting almost universally occurs on the first layer of the Nine Hell, Avernus.
