The Broken Ring
Where the Echoes of Glory Fade into Dust
Encircling the haunted ruins of Lumina’s Hearth lies a land both feared and pitied across the Sphere—The Broken Ring.
Once the fertile heartlands that nourished the League of Stars, these lands were the first to fall when the fires of betrayal and civil war consumed the League’s dreams. What remains is a grim reminder of the price of ambition and the fragility of unity. The Broken Ring stretches outward from the blackened bones of Lumina’s Hearth, its landscape twisted by ancient sorceries, shattered cities, and fields where the very soil resists cultivation. Near the ruins, the land is dead and cursed; even the hardiest plants wither under a sun that seems colder than elsewhere in the Sphere. Strange lights wander the abandoned roads at night, and broken constructs from the League’s final days roam without master or purpose, attacking anything they encounter.
As one travels outward, the devastation lessens—but never truly vanishes. Villages cling to the outer reaches of the Broken Ring like stubborn moss upon a stone, fortified against both monsters and the despair that seems to seep from the land itself. Crops are hardier here, but twisted in ways scholars barely understand. Ruined fortresses, crumbling temples, and scorched towers still dot the hills, their treasures long looted—or guarded by things best undisturbed. Magic lingers thickly in the Broken Ring, unstable and tainted. Simple enchantments sometimes fail or turn wild. Healing spells falter. Storms strike without warning, as if the very weave of magic in the region were frayed and raw. Some say the ghosts of the League’s last defenders still walk the fields they died to protect, their spirits bound to oaths no longer remembered.
Despite the dangers, the Broken Ring draws the brave, the desperate, and the greedy. Ruins from the League of Stars still hide forgotten artifacts of power, ancient armories, and fragments of lost lore. Treasure hunters, mercenaries, and clandestine scholars risk death and worse to uncover these relics, hoping to reshape their fates—or the Sphere itself- with what they find.
Yet for most, the Broken Ring is not a place of opportunity. It is a warning written in broken stone and silent fields: that even the greatest empires fall, and when they do, it is the land itself that mourns.
“The League built a world of marble and gold. All it took to break it was a dagger, a lie, and enough fear.” — Old proverb among the scavengers of the Broken Ring
