House Karsbane

House Karsbane is a proud and fiercely independent noble family that rose from humble peasant origins to become a formidable force in the Noureen Wood. Their legacy began with a legendary act of defiance against House Karker, which earned them lands, titles, and their enduring name. Ruling from their imposing castle, WoodRidge, they are known for their military strength, relentless pursuit of autonomy, and abandonment of most fae traditions in favor of martial prowess. Despite being part of the empire, they have never fully accepted their status as vassals, maintaining a deep resentment toward their liege lords and preparing for any opportunity to assert their independence. House Karsbane embodies a culture of vengeance, strength, and unyielding pride, making them both respected and feared in the region.

Culture

House Karsbane has a culture defined by vengeance, martial prowess, and a deep sense of pride in their bloody history. Originating from a family of peasants who rose to prominence through acts of violence against House Karker during the original invasion, they have since adopted a warrior ethos that values strength, honor, and retribution above all else. Unlike many other fae-influenced houses in the Noureen Wood, House Karsbane has abandoned most fae traditions, focusing instead on honing their military skills and maintaining a rigid code of conduct. Their culture revolves around a desire for independence and a refusal to accept their liege’s rule, even thousands of years later, making them a house that is fiercely protective of their autonomy. While they are often viewed as harsh and unyielding, House Karsbane’s relentless spirit and dedication to their heritage make them both respected and feared within the region.

Assets

House Karsbane possesses several formidable assets, with their imposing castle, WoodRidge, being the most notable. Perched on a rocky hill overlooking the Noureen Wood, WoodRidge serves as a powerful symbol of their strength and independence, featuring high walls and fortified towers that have withstood numerous conflicts. Their lands are rich in hardwood forests, providing valuable timber that they trade to maintain a steady income, despite their primary focus on martial prowess. House Karsbane also boasts one of the most well-trained and disciplined armies among the Noureen vassals, second only to a few of the most powerful houses, ensuring they remain a force to be reckoned with. While not the wealthiest, their military strength, strategic location, and access to timber make House Karsbane a formidable power in the region.

History

House Karsbane began as a family of low-born peasants who rose to prominence during the original Carker invasion of the Noureen Wood. Their founder earned the name Karsbane after killing four of Castor Carker's five sons in a legendary act of defiance, a feat that won him lands, titles, and the grudging respect of the conquerors. Despite being granted noble status, House Karsbane never forgot their origins or the bloodshed that brought them power, maintaining a fierce resentment toward the Karkers even as they became part of the same empire. Over the centuries, they abandoned many fae traditions, focusing instead on honing their military skills and defending their autonomy, refusing to submit fully to their liege lords. Although the empire has brought peace to most of the region, House Karsbane has never truly accepted this arrangement, continuously preparing for the day they might reclaim their freedom. Their history is one of vengeance, pride, and an unyielding spirit, making them a house that refuses to forget the price of power.
