Corporate Space
Corporate Space is the sector of the galaxy that the various corporations have carved up into a patchwork of private dominions. Each one ruled over by its owning corporation. Corporations seek to maximize profits, and for the most part this leads to well run populations. This does not occur out of any altruism on the part of the corporations, but out of the knowledge that other corporations will swoop in and exploit any perceived weakness, leading to the misbehaving corporation's probable destruction. While this does no favors for the freedoms of the common citizen of a corporation, at a macro level this has seemed to produce stable civilizations.
Sub-contracting and partnerships are quite common between corporations. Smaller corporations who may not even own a planet, yet alone whole systems, often find success in providing services to other corporations or individuals in a more convenient package than could be produced in-house. Seraph Industries is one such example. They provide solution teams trained to fix complex and intricate problems without necessarily engaging with proper channels. Another example would be the Dragon Corps, a renowned mercenary company. Many larger corporations will use smaller corporations for security, espionage, and even secret armies. Hostile Takeovers happen more on battlefields than boardrooms.
