The Dragon Corps are a mercenary organization. They are widely renowned throughout corporate space for their professionalism and their effectiveness. Captain-General Hestor Demaris is the current leader of the Dragon Corps. To contract the services of Dragon Corps units is an expensive endeavor, but is generally viewed as money well spent.
Mercenary units, or free-companies, like the Dragon Corps, are often used by corporations who need a little boost in their security profile. Whether hiring a single squad as bodyguards for a specific event, or a platoon to quell worker unrest on some backwater holding planet, or a full battalion as the key factor in a hostile takeover, mercenary units provide the flexibility, and often the deniability, for corporations to achieve whatever their current objectives may be. And the Dragon Corps provides these services with honor, pride, and reliability.
The Dragon Corps was reportedly founded in the year 23 R.E., marking it as one of the oldest mercenary organizations currently active in the corporate sector. The Chameni Corporation hired them to assist them in their bid to resist a hostile takeover by the Katara Corporation. With the help of the Dragon Corps, the Chameni Corp successfully repelled the Katara Corp forces. Unfortunately some sixty years later, the Chameni Corp declined to hire any outside mercenaries when facing a potential hostile takeover by the Loga Corp., and were completely dissolved in the conflict.
The Dragon Corps has a reputation for being rather particular in the contracts it chooses to accept. Most notably they do not accept contracts involving the subjugation of peoples. They also tend to take on clients that can be regarded as underdogs. Lost causes often get a discount as well. Oddly enough, over the course of the centuries, the Dragon Corps has been involved in most major conflicts in corporate space. On one side or the other, and sometimes both. This is a testament to their skill and professionalism.
Those of a more conspiratorial nature like to gossip about how the Dragons must work for some secret organization. Maybe even the Illuminati Council itself, but as all conspiracy theories get laid at the feet of the mythical Illuminati Council, this is given no credence by rational minds.
