The Maplewoods

Within the Maplewood Mountain Range lies the Maplewoods. The Maplewoods are a mystery in unto itself. The cultural complexities of its inhabitants are a perfect reflection of their dual pantheon, Mother Maple and Father Fungus.

The former, a gargantuan maple tree at the center of the Maplewoods, is the chief matriarchal figure in Forest Gnome society. Providing sustenance, shelter and societal structure to an otherwise strange place bereft of normalcy. Beneath Mother Maple lays Father Fungus, a never-ending symbiotic network of mycelium that grows below the Maplewoods in the vast caverns where all gnomes originated, known as the Realm of the Mad King. Father Fungus is the source of the inherent chaotic nature of gnomes, spraying spores from above onto all who dwell below slowly replacing their brains with his network of madness. This resulted in The Gnomining, an exodus of Gnomes from their ancestral homeland.

Some gnomes found their home among the bows of the forest while other kept travelling and settled in the surrounding mountain ranges melding with fledgling The Dwarfen Holds. Despite being far removed from the Realm of the Mad King, Gnomes retain the chaotic energy of Father Fungus which is reflected in their culture, societies and humor.

*"Do you know why my friend planted that tree?"
"Why?"
"Let's go ask him!"*

...trust me it's funnier in Gnominese...

Forest Gnome society and Rock Gnome Society are very different from one another with Rock Gnomes being more accepted and integrated across the land.
