Laws of the Multiverse
The Multiverse is filled with thousands of worlds, and endless possibilities
This article goes over a few notes to keep in mind for the Multiverse and its portrayal in this Setting/Campaign. Some may be written Out-of-Character, some not, for the sake of clarity.
- Most worlds are Fantasy adjacent, or at least, not particularly advanced. Even though worlds equivalent to our technology, similar to ours, or even more futuristic are bound to exist in a Multiverse of infinite options, for the sake of not breaking immersion, most worlds visited or involved won't be very advanced technologically. A few exceptions may occur, but generally, most worlds will be adjacent to the genres of Fantasy, or the like. (As a creative, I don't generally marry myself to genres and just, do my own thing, with my worlds or stories happening to fall under a certain genre, but you get the idea)
- Long story short, this multiverse DOES NOT work, for example, like Marvel's Multiverse, were multiple versions of the same person and story exist in multiple worlds. At least again, not naturally.
GUARDIANS AND BEACONS IN THE MULTIVERSE
There are countless worlds in the multiverse, most of them being "open", easy to find and infiltrate for a creature like The Silent King. However, some worlds have their borders closed-off to outsiders, or are entirely hidden to them. These worlds usually are so by design, be it a god, a powerful creature, etc, making it so others cannot access or find it. Whichever this creature is, they are referred to as the "Active Guardian", or just "Guardian". Most often, these figures are gods, and even though most worlds have them, not all worlds have figures that care about closing its borders or hidden their world from outsiders. The Silent King, mighty as he might be, cannot supersede a Guardian's will. No creature can, not even gods. If he, or anyone is to enter whatever world is closed off, he must communicate with its Guardian and reach an agreement that ultimately allows him entry. To find a hidden world, you usually must do the same. However... You need to find its Guardian first, or someone or something in relation to it. This is when a "Beacon" comes into play. Usually an object, rarer ocassions creature, that originates from that world, and allows The King to guide himself through the endless chaos of the multiverse towards his target. Some worlds are lost, or hidden, but not on purpose, lacking guardians or having special circusmtances. "Beacons", as they are referred to in The King's Realm , essentially work the exact same way that Mist Talismans work in the Mists of Ravenloft. To give an example, even though The Silent King is in good standing with the Dark Powers, and has access to most of Ravenloft, but he is not with Count Strahd von Zavorich, the ruler of Barovia, a domain within Ravenloft. The King is an Aberrant God, while the Count a mere Vampire, but as long as he doesn't willingly allow entry to the King to his realm, there is nothing the King can do; he cannot look into Barovia, send his servants, or anything at all. Not unless he reaches a deal with the Count that allows it someday. The Silent King's greater power doesn't supersede an Active Guardian's authority over their own realm, no matter the type of creature they may be, and this same rule applies all throughout the universe.WORLDS DO NOT REPEAT, NEITHER DO THE PEOPLE WITHIN THEM
Each world is distinct, and people do not repeat among them. Some major figures, names, or locations, like those of divine character, like Fierna in Terra, Magicae, and Faerun, or Zeus in Theros and other worlds, may, either be it as divine characters or simply names. Even if they still have similar roles, they will still be distinct, different people or places among each version of them. Worlds that are alternate versions of one another, in exception of occurences like Outer Planes like the Shadowfell-Feywild, etc; are not a common ocurrence, to the point most multiversal travelers consider them completely impossible. They simply do not ocurr naturally... Somebody made them that way.Magicae and Terra
"Worlds do not repeat, neither do the within them. It is simply impossible... At least naturally"
Magicae and Terra share too many similarities for it to be a natural ocurrence. Even though the truth, and full information is not known yet, Ivongolf Ladaire, a Magicean scholar, explained Terra as an "alternate Material Plane". In his madness and frustration, he clearly couldn't explain much, if he even knows the full truth. But he described Terra more so as a secondary Material Plane within Magicae rather than a fully indepent world of its own, calling its Gods "false", and at best as powerful as Magicae's Saints. He took great offense to Terra being referred to as an "alternate reality", calling it a "coloquial term" for it, but considering the many similarities between both, even if they are not exact copies, alternate reality may be the most appropiate term to understand it as of now.
There is still much to be learned, to hopefully understand what may be possibly happening. After all, the only person who's given any kind of information is a pedantic madman.
Before the party's (Commander Leonidas , Neela , Penny , Turner & Arcoiris , and Zephyr Venstesa's) first mission, both originating from Terra and Magicae alike, The Silent King kept any information relating to Magicae or Terra out of reach, and secret whenever possible, not even letting some of them know of either world's (or plane's...?) existence. What may be his reasoning, that is yet to be seen. This does not mean other Servants weren't aware of it or may even be natives to either world. But if that is the case, that is not known to any of the party members as of yet.
As of recent, The Archivist, Vanessa Yovranna, revealed to Commander Leonidas that Magicae, and Terra as well, are a hidden world which's Active Guardian is an entity The King and herself both have dealt with. She did not reveal the identity of the guardian, but her relationship with it does not seem to be a pleasant one, and she warned Leonidas about acting against it; both to avoid losing access to Magicae, and... Well, that much she did not say. If or when Leonidas is to share this information with the rest of the party remains to be seen.
