Stetbalt
Barenthis
Stetbalt is a fairly large island in the East of Barenthis. The island is mostly wild, and covered in mountains and forests. However, it is inhabited by the outcasts of of other islands, the unwanted peoples of Barenthis. The island was first discovered by drow fleeing the wrath of Queen Eudora early in her reign, after they promoted the worship of Foronda (God of Forbidden Secrets) over Vahlen (God of the dark). Most of Eudora's subjects worship her as a prophet of Vahlen, and she does not take kindly to any threat to her authority.
The Drow outcasts found an island overrun by nature, and without a fragment of civilisation left on it. But they survived, and, eventually, thrived. They built the Three Strongholds of Stetbalt; Yoloth-Tyr, Kezrin, and Mournilir. They survived, building a population of Drow, but also breeding with the native goblinoid species of the island. The results were not ideal, half-breeds with the cunning of the Drow and the ability to survive of the natives. These half-breeds, known as Hobgoblins, gradually integrated into society, though held none of the status of the Drow. They were kept as workers, almost like animals, despite their intelligence.
Over time, reforms came into place that gave the Hobgoblins extra freedoms and rights, but they never attained the status of the Drow. Now, the Drow are the ruling-class of Stetbalt, though the Hobgoblins far outnumber them, and make up the majority of the population of the Three Strongholds.
