Yoloth-Tyr

Stetbalt   Yoloth-Tyr is the Southern most stronghold in Stetbalt, and perhaps the most deserving of the term 'stronghold'. It closest to the coast, and therefore perhaps the most open to invasion. It is a looming obelisk of grey stone towers and buildings, the epicentre of which is Castly Tyr, perhaps the most formidable structure in the Shattered Reach.   The 4 Districts:   The Royal District - This is where General Yoloth-Tyr herself resides, along with the majority of the Drow population of the city. They live in luxury, and hold higher status than even the highest ranking hobgoblin within the city, regardless of their own achievements. Everything here is of the highest possible quality in Stetbalt, and it would not be uncommon to see Drow walking around with slaves attending to their every need. There are too few hobgoblins here to ever pose much threat, and they are generally unskilled and meek compared to the rest of their kin.   The North District - This is governed by Officers Brassik Verillis (M) and Yemissi Gelerei (F). It is the second most prosperous district, and is where the Hobgoblin war mages are trained. It contains a fair amount of arcane knowledge and items, though some of it may be twisted, or adapted outside of the usual bounds of arcane study. This is due to the extreme lack of contact Stetbalt has had with the outside world. The hobgoblins here are mostly content, and life here is the easiest of any district.   The East District - This is governed by Officers Clarida Fissinimer (F) and Havenue Alhavanka (M). This district contains the largest number of Hobgoblins in the city, and is always ready to mobilise into military action. The majority of people here are soldiers of craftsmen that provide for the army of Yoloth-Tyr. The law here is the most stringent due to the sheer volume of guards present, and the harsh military minds of the residents here. The Hobgoblins here are perhaps the most ferocious and volatile, meaning uprisings can, and have, happened. However, they are usually swiftly quelled by the rest of the city.   The South District - This is governed by Officers Virana Deselmi (F) and Habadara Grin (F). This is where the farmers and hunters reside, and is generally considered the least valuable of the districts, despite its role. This district supplies food, textiles, and other everyday items to the city at large. The workers here are effective, and given little choice but to be by their Drow employers. This is also the poorest district of the city, and the Hobgoblins here are usually used as a sort of buffer in times of war, to protect the true warriors and mages from the East and North districts. No one here wants any trouble. The Drow here are cruel.

Demographics

Mostly Hobgoblin, a small amount of high-ranking Drow.

Government

The city is run by General Maruanne Yoloth-Tyr (F), the last remaining of the three original leaders of the Drow outcasts sent to Stebalt, and her military council. The council votes on options presented by the General, meaning she ultimately has the say in what is and is not passed. The council is made up of 2 Drow representatives from each district (totalling 6 drow), who are picked by the General herself. Each pair of Drow is responsible for the goings on of their own district, including the individual military branches of each, the water and food supplies, etc. Each district is walled off from the rest, with 3 entrances/exits to each, apart from the Royal district. This has just one possible point of exit or entrance. Each pair of Drow also has an office in their district, usually heavily defended.

Defences

Various machines of war, including semi-sentient war-constructs. Heavy stone walls, almost all reinforced with metal or magic, depending on the wealth or importance of the area. Runes that cast spells or dispel magical effects are dotted about the city in prime locations.

Industry & Trade

Has access to the inlet into the island, where people can fish etc. It tries to be as self-sufficient as possible.

Infrastructure

Lots and lots of thick stone walls. The mage-balcony in castle Tyr, a pillared balcony from which military mages can sling spells from the safety of a kind of force field.

Assets

Various machines of war, including semi-sentient war-constructs. Arcanium crystals.

History

The Drow that migrated to Stetbalt had 3 leading figures: Maruanne Yolloth-Tyr(F), Asval Kezrin(M), and Parlax Mournilir(F). The most warlike of the three, Maruanne, took the closest vantage point to their landing site - atop the cliffs they arrived at - and set about building an impenetrable fortress. She worked closely with her brother, Karas Yoloth-Tyr, until he made an attempt on her life, and she banished him form the city. He was thrown into the natural caverns beneath the city, and left to die. He did not, however, and unleashed a plague on the city. 50 years ago, the Drow nobility began to transform into Driders, horrific combinations of Drow and spider, with no apparent warning. Most believe this to be the work of Karas.

Architecture

Flat, functional buildings in most cases. Very little decoration outside of the Royal district.

Geography

Sits atop a large cliff, overlooking the inlet. The cliff has a large natural cave system beneath, dominated by the exiled brother of General Yoloth-Tyr, Karas Yoloth-Tyr. The cave system is used as a kind of dungeon by the city, and the entrances to it are heavily guarded. Also banished to the caves are Drow afflicted by a terrible disease that mutates them into Drow-spider hybrids, known as Driders. It is believed that the General's brother released this disease on the city in his rage at being exiled.
