Greendeep

Deep beneath the capital city, even beyond the massive sewer system that keeps the city clean, lies a maze of caves, tunnels and underground lakes. Few have had the courage to enter, and even fewer have made it back. Speculated to have been born as a side product of The Cataclysm, Greendeep is full of flora and fauna infused with magic that can be found nowhere else, as well as monsters too horrible to imagine. It is also the home to the Green Drow, the descendants of dark elves who sought refuge in the cave system during the war.

Geography

Greendeep consists of a series of natural caverns connected by tunnels that spreads out to an almost web-like structure underneath The Capital and beyond, so massive that a thorough exploration would probably take a few lifetimes, and there would still be a few more places to find. Greendeep has a whole system of underground rivers running through it, as well as caverns that have been completely claimed by full-sized lakes.

Ecosystem

The air in Greendeep is moist and warm, and with many natural sources for fresh water, it is a perfect habitat to grow - except the lack of sunlight of course. Still, the cavern walls are covered in thick layer of vines, moss and other greenery, creating an almost jungle-like feel to the environment. This would not be possible without the symbiotic relationship that the plants have developed with certain species of fungi, thus being able to manage photosynthesis without any sunlight.

And of course, a tremendous amount of fungi also calls Greendeep its home. Many of these species emit bioluminescence, creating a dim lighting throughout the cave system wherever they are present. These fungi are a powerful ingredient when used in potions, and one of the reasons one might travel to Greendeep.
