A Vision of War

Session 10

In the room on the other side of the door, we found two people. One was wearing a winged helm and armor. The other was wearing leather clothes and wielding a longbow.   They attacked us and, though we fought bravely and well, we were defeated.   After the fight the Winged Helm decapitated Mishara and all of us had a vision of an endless battlefield with tens of thousands of bodies upon it and the Winged Helm sitting upon a throne of the dead with blood on his hands.   Then we awoke back in the dining hall of the Doomy Inn, unscathed, but shaken from the too-realistic vision we just had.   Mishara then explained that the portion we drank allowed Istus to give us a vision of the most probable future, which will come to pass if we fail to prevent it by finding the object were sent to seek.   She still had no information about what that object is, but told us that if Istus did not believe we were capable of figuring that out, we would not have been given the task.   Mishara paid us 50 gold Damara for helping her with the task and an additional 200 for expenses on the next leg of the journey.   She also promised that we would be lent horses that we could use to travel the Palisades Way toward the tomb we saw in our vision, which we now believe is somewhere in Eberon .   We then set off toward the Gate of the Gap, the entrance into Whitecrest Ridge and the Kingdom of Empyrea.   Just before we got there, though, we heard hoofs approaching from behind and hid just in time to see the Winged Helm and the Archer we saw in the vision, accompanied by a Dwarf, as they rode past.   They beat us to the gate and when we arrived we tried to find out where they had gone, but the lead rider must have taken off his helmet before he arrived, because the gate guardsmen did not see him enter wearing it.   We did get the impression that the guard seemed to think he was some sort of hero, rather than a murderous thug, as we had thought.   We passed through the Gate of the Gap and entered Empyrea.
