The Scion's Reach

Scope

The motivation behind building The Scion's Reach

This world is my sort of escape from reality, to create a world where science and technology are the new hot topics instead of the background ones. In short, it would be my idealistic take on a society that doesn't revolve around diversity and has already fully integrated all of mankind into one seamless species.

The goal of the project

This world is meant to be the foundation for my upcoming (Soon TM) book series, providing a deep and lore-rich background for the characters and storylines to evolve in.

Naturally, this world can also support other medias such as comics, games or videos, should I find the time to dive into creating these as well.

The Scion's Reach's Unique Selling point

I would like to believe that The Scion's Reach's unique selling point is its depth and realism, as every single thing written has deep interconnections with everything else around it, the entire world is a gigantic web of events and decisions. How much of that the readers will see, however, is up for interpretation for most of it.

Theme

Genre

My world is an interstellar science-fiction universe, where most if not all technologies are derived from realistic prospects. This will ideally mean things will remain broadly understandable as to what they do and how they work.

Reader Experience

The Scion's Reach takes place in a remote area of the Milky Way galaxy, far from Sol and Earth. It is a dangerous place, but Humanity has prospered there nonetheless. My audience should feel threatened, but also in awe of what's been done, and what is to come. The road ahead is unclear, but it is neither dark nor bright, it is what we make of it.

Reader Tone

As is was said earlier, this world is neither bright nor dark. Life is dangerous, but also full of wonderful things to enjoy. Catastrophes, wars and other atrocities can occur, but so can technological enlightenments and new forms of art or even new cultures. In short, life is what we make out if it, it isn't pre-determined.

Recurring Themes

I would say the main themes of The Scion's Reach would be Technology, Politics and Consequences. I try to make the world as deep as possible, giving extensive backgrounds to everything inside it. This results in a deep web of political entitites and the consequences that led to their creations, such as the Enodian Ascendancy.

Character Agency

This world is not one where the actions of a single person can greatly influence its future, except for a handful of politicians. The Phantoms book series follows a group of people at the heart of one of the world's greatest discovery and conspiracy, but even their actions can only do so much against the grinding machine that is The Scion's Reach's political landscape.

Focus

Military: there is a cold war between The Scion's Reach's two major superpowers, and as a result, military spending and research is higher than ever. This results in an increased military presence in the streets, xenophobia lingering in the minds of many and scientists looking for military applications first, then more mundane ones.

Technology: Even with new wonder materials and some more unrealistic discoveries, The Scion's Reach's technology level is nowhere near an omnipotent Humanity. There are numerous limitations to overcome, and the new cold war between Elysium's major super powers is a great catalyst for such technological discoveries.

Politics: A world without nations and governments would assuredly be pretty empty, and The Scion's Reach is no exception. Numerous political and economical entitites constitute the world's socio-economic landscape, and their interactions define the world where people will live in. Some countries might seem nicer than others, but it's all a delicate balance between power and liberties.

Drama

Cold War: Tensions are high between the two major superpowers of Elysium, and even neutral parties do not particularily enjoy this state of affairs. While trade still continues, espionage and covert operations and a common subject among news outlets and bar discussions.

Aftermath of the Interstellar War: Even though it happenned more than a century ago, the Interstellar War still has open scars in Ceryx. Pirates roam freely in the majority of the system, besieging the inner planets who are guarded by the largest armada every assembled.

Mutually Assured Destruction: Ever since the militarization of space, MAD has been an open topic for all major military powers of Elysium. As weapons are now capable of destroying the entire surface of a planet, potentially several times over, war has become a terrifying prospect.
