The Scepter Valley

The valley is 25 miles in diameter, and enjoys unusually warm weather for the region, brought about by the volcanic earth, hot springs, and the surrounding mountain range that acts as a vanguard against the harsh, frozen north winds.   Beyond the metropolis of Gavenlow, there are dozens off smaller villages spread across the plains and grassy hills. The Roots of the Sea runs through it and exits in the south where it flows to the Sea of Swords.   Major trade roads, winding country paths, and avenues of poplar run along every part of the open valley where much of the land has been undeveloped, or exists for grazing cattle, farming, and tending vineyards. A few hard lines can be found on the horizon where the tram tracks carve the landscape, where a straight, uninterrupted shot on the tram can take you from one end of the valley to the other in thirty minutes or less, making the reach of the Emerald Forces swift and crushing, and those with the means to use the trams for construction material unstoppable tycoons.

Geography

The valley is isolated by the Spine of the World mountain range that surrounds it on nearly every side, forming the valley in the bowl. The only route accessible on foot, besides navigating the obscure and abandoned Underspine roads, is to travel alongside or up the Roots of the Sea from where it begins on the Sword Coast.

Natural Resources

Common sights in the valley, natural and constructed:   Windmills and granary, stables, inns, wagon-worn roads and trails, farmhouses and hill hovel, wheat fields and open grazing fields, vineyards, small caves where bears rest or bandits hide away, patches of protected forest, nightleaf groves, woodcutters mills, small independent mines for copper and bronze and iron, haystacks, grazing livestock, ponds, orchards, breweries, tram yards, horse breeders, foundries, forges, textiles, herbalists, craggy slopes and boulder fields at the bottom of the Spine, branches of the Roots of the Sea teeming with salmon and river squid.
