A Forest Folk infected by bloodsap attempted to reach the capital of Haikella and spread the Forest from its heart. This incident prompted the nations of Veiama to create passports for the purposes of identification and enforcing quarantines.
The ship, arriving from an old trade partner to the south, docked in Port Hope. They traded cotton, spice, and textiles, and brought news that their city had been surrounded by a forest that grew within months, and their citizens being picked off in the night. They planned to use the resources they acquired in Port Hope to aid the fight, and weren't sure when they would make trade trips again. No other ships have arrived in Port Hope since.
A hunter from the island of Kulo, in Lake Pauvahäs, travelled into the Forest and became infected. He managed to get past the perimeter checkpoint without being detected, and carried a bloodsap seed back to his village. After it grew on his farm, he infected the well with sap. Within days, humans and animals alike began mutating and killing each other. By the time Border Rangers took control of the situation, only a dozen survivors could be saved and the entire island was quarantined, given over to the Forest.
The Prince Royal of Kaleina is born. His father, King Halkir, promises that when he comes of age, he will have the power to destroy the Forest.
