A Curious God
Volnen has always been known as the god of wisdom and knowledge since his birth after the Fall of the Elder Gods that he was created from. It was through him that all things were given their name, and language was written to store knowledge to be kept for all time. His curiosity would be the most extraordinary power that would elevate him to explore the nine realms before any other god ever learned all that could be offered to him. Even when he blinded himself during his Journey of Knowledge, it only made him more powerful than ever before. He would be given the powers to see far more remarkable than regular sight ever could, allowing him access to knowing Fate and secrets long since forgotten by time, so much so that he would be the architect of creating Humanity more than any other god that played their role. He became so great that he was loved and feared by his fellow gods because of his boundless power, so to avoid his potential wrath if he was ever displeased, they made him their king. He would take the goddess Breja, the shield mother, as his queen to protect his kingdom from all that would dare harm it and himself. He would bring about many wonders to the gods through his knowledge, ensuring their dominance across the nine realms. Yet, this did not stop him from seeking more knowledge than before, as all the realms were constantly changing, with old things ushering in the new to allow things to be learned. Amongst all the realms, he would often travel across Middenhal amongst the mortals as he considered them his favorite creations, for they were an ever-changing and creative race that was fascinating to witness. Often disguised as a blind wanderer or seer, Volnen witnessed mortals' triumphs and struggles, continuing their lives as Fate intended. Those that caught his interest, he would follow their achievements and would eventually tell their Fate as his power granted him the sight to see the Fates of all upon the Wheel of Ages often being their to bear witness to them to know how would fare when their end came near. While this may seem cruel to some, it is mainly done as a test to see if they were found worthy of entering the great halls to dine with the gods. He sometimes grants his boon to such mortals to aid them in their journeys. When he was finally finished, he would wander off once more, taking note of the event of what transpired to remember them.Protector of the Realms
As king of the gods, Volnen has a sacred duty to protect the nine realms from all forces that seek to destroy them. This has often led him to confront many entities seeking to undo creation. From demons forged from the thread of chaos and beings born from the darkness of the void itself, the god-king would face them all with his power bestowed on him through his knowledge, often on his own or with his fellow gods and followers at his side to drive them back and vanquish them. Ensure that the world tree continues to stand, and with it, the realms, yet it often leads to him preparing for any future dangers as he uses his power of sight to see into the potential future. Volnen's charge is not one he bears lightly. For eons, he has faced threats that seek to undo creation itself. Demons born from the threads of primordial chaos claw their way into the realms, seeking to unravel the delicate weave of existence. Shadowy entities from the void, beings without form but of infinite hunger, lurk at the edges of reality, striving to consume the light and plunge the realms into oblivion. Each battle leaves its mark on the god-king, though he shows no weakness before his people. With his spear, Glintyr, forged from the very heart of a dying star, and his shield, Aegisdorn, inscribed with runes of impenetrable protection, Volnen stands unyielding. His victories are often solitary acts of heroism, waged against forces too terrible for others to comprehend, but when the danger is great, he calls upon his fellow gods and mortal champions to fight by his side. Among Volnen’s many gifts, his most invaluable is his power of sight. With eyes imbued by the essence of the World Tree, he can gaze into the ever-branching rivers of potential futures. This power enables him to prepare for dangers before they arise, but it comes at a price. Each vision chips away at his present self, leaving him burdened by the knowledge of sacrifices that must be made and betrayals that may come. He has seen countless possible ends Vorrill consumed in frostfire, the realms collapsing into a singularity of darkness, or even his own death at the hands of those he once trusted. These visions haunt him, but they also drive him. Volnen understands that foresight is not just a gift; it is a responsibility. While he uses his power to guide his people and fortify the realms, he is acutely aware that knowledge of the future does not guarantee the ability to change it. One of Volnen’s greatest trials came against the Myrknir, a being woven from the threads of chaos itself. This ancient entity sought to unravel the very fabric of Vorrill, severing the roots that bound the Nine Realms together. For centuries, the Myrknir’s influence grew, hidden in the shadows, its chaos spreading like a disease. Volnen’s foresight revealed its plan—a cataclysmic event that would have sundered the realms in a single moment. To confront this threat, Volnen descended into the Rootforge, the place where the World Tree’s roots touch the primordial seas. There, he faced the Myrknir in its true form: a vast, amorphous mass of twisting threads and ever-changing faces. The battle shook the foundations of existence. With every strike of Glintyr, Volnen severed strands of chaos, but the Myrknir’s form would reshape, adapting and growing stronger. It was only through his knowledge of ancient runes, carved into the World Tree itself, that Volnen prevailed. Chanting the incantations of binding, he imprisoned the Myrknir within a shard of frozen time, locking it away in the deepest void beneath the realms. The void, a realm of infinite nothingness beyond the edges of creation, is home to beings even Volnen dreads. These entities, known as the Voidborn, exist without form or purpose beyond destruction. They cannot be reasoned with or killed in any conventional sense. Volnen’s foresight revealed a moment when the Voidborn would breach the barriers of the Nine Realms. This vision spurred him to forge the Aegis Gate, a colossal barrier powered by the light of the World Tree itself. Its creation required sacrifices—not only the essence of celestial beings who willingly gave their power to Volnen, but also the severing of certain branches of Vorrill to fuel its construction.mMany questioned Volnen’s choices, calling them cruel and unnecessary. Even some gods, including his trusted allies, turned against him, claiming he was too consumed by fear of a future that might never come Volnen’s burden weighs heavily on him. Though he is king, he is not immune to doubt. In moments of solitude, he reflects on the cost of his actions. The lives lost in battles, the alliances strained by his foresight, and the friends turned to foes all of these linger in his mind. His most painful vision is one he never speaks of: a future where he himself becomes the very force he fights against. The sight of himself, clad in shadow and frost, standing atop the broken remains of Vorrill, chills him to his core. Yet he does not falter. Volnen believes that his duty as protector is worth any personal cost. As the Nine Realms continue to face threats from within and beyond, Volnen remains vigilant. The frost of the Ice Brothers, the schemes of chaos, and the whispers of the Voidborn are but a few of the challenges he faces. Yet he knows that the greatest danger may not come from an external force but from the delicate balance of trust and power that holds the realms together. Volnen, the God-King, endures. His spear shines as a beacon of hope, and his foresight remains the shield that guards the Nine Realms. But even gods are not immune to the weight of their choices.
Sit down, my friend, and let me tell you of Aran'sha . A world where the sands shift and the stars sing, where the wind carries secrets and the twin moons keep silent vigil over it all.
