Steel is used in a verity of different ways in creating items such as, tools, weapons, armor, construction equipment, and magic.

Manufacturing

In steelmaking, impurities such as nitrogen, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur and excess carbon are removed from the raw iron, and alloying elements such as manganese, nickel, chromium and vanadium are added to produce different grades of steel. Limiting dissolved gases such as nitrogen and oxygen, and entrained impurities (termed "inclusions") in the steel is also important to ensure the quality of the products cast from the steel

Not one knows who discovered it, but their name is for ever lost to time. But their work lives on.

Complexity

An true blacksmith can learn how to create it and it must be done in a forge in order to properly reach the right grade. It not the steel with not be as strong or durable then it should be. Steel is not found naturally either so it must be made of iron and carbon along with creating it at a very high flame temperature to reach its top quality.
