They are in charge of keeping their men under control and disciplined. Especially while marching or in battle.
Responsibilities
Must take responsibility of taking care of their men by taking care of tent of barrack duties such as cleaning, equipment check and ration control.

Often wear a badge that has has two feathers engraved into it and is often worn the outside of the armor.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
If they are unable to control their men or fail their basic duties and will face punishment of fail their rule. Often leads to a demotion to standard legionary.
History
As numbers of legions began to rise in numbers, it became more difficult to maintain discipline among the ranks, so squad leaders began to form and began to take charge of small groups of men in order to lighten the burden of higher commanding officers. These men are the real reason that discipline is kept in the ranks and will continue to do so until their duties are finished.
Cultural Significance
It does not matter that the they are the lowest rank in a legion, they still respected as any other officer even if only with a few men under their command.
