Session 6 Report: Erradication
General Summary
After spending a somewhat restless night at the Moonrise Tavern, the party decides to head to the site where Brunhilst had set camp in order to prepare the attack against the cultists. On their way there, they met StarSpark, a barbarian who cannot say no to anyone who asks for aid and agreed to join the party to help defeat the cultists.
Once they met with Brunhilst, she gave Anhiri a sending stone and a pin of scrying. The plan is to send the party as a scout group and once they find the cultist camp, using the sending stone, they would let Brunhilst know it is time to attack. After gathering some supplies, the party goes off to investigate where the camp could be.
On their path, they encounter a group of humans and goblins, all wearing amulets that confirm they are enemies. The party sets up an ambush and surprises them with an attack. One of the goblins transforms into a wolf-like creature and told Anhiri and StarSpark that "he is not their enemy". Anhiri tries to convince the creature he could help the party defeat the cult. The wolf-goblin does not stay with the party, but lets Anhiri know where the camp is through a vision. The only other survivor of the fight is one of the humans, who was taken as a hostage and brought back to Brunhilst's camp for interrogation.
Three main points were gathered from the interrogation:
- A detailed map of the camp, with a confirmation that there are no hidden rooms since the camp is set in some ancient ruins.
- The bandit leader, Roderic, is also a high-status noble from Aeloria. He is acquainted with Zara, one of the main leaders of the cult. She is leading another camp nearby, near Pelaris at the Neverane plateau.
- The cult's name is Rebirth Conclave, and they worship Xolthuun, an ancient god who used to rule the world.
After designing a very elaborated plan for a good while, Brokkr fails to calculate the trajectory of his misty step spell correctly and plummets into the tile ceiling, breaking it as he tried to sneakily land on top of the old roof of the temple. With an intruder in sight, the goblins, humans and ogres immediately start defending their base as Anhiri calls for backup through the sending stone. In just a second, a portal opens from the pin Brokkr is wearing and Brunhilst arrives with dozens of warriors of the Pale Fangs. Rushing through the warfare, the party defeats an ogre and a Bipalium. Afterwards, they encountered Roderic. He tries to vanish using an invisibility spell but Brunhilst, who herself crashed into the room through the wall on top of a slayed ogre, is quick enough to counterspell him and StarSpark attacked his leg before he could escape. Almost in a mocking way, he says
it's too late, as the party witnesses a giant troll approaching the base in the distance.
