The First Queen's Necklace Myth in The Realms | World Anvil

The First Queen's Necklace

Immense power comes from love, but also hate. Be careful what consumes you.

While the true name of this necklace has vanished from history and all mentions are, much like the First Royal Family, only found legends and stories, they paint it as one of the most powerful artifacts of the Mer Realm. It has been attributed with the creation of The Great Divide, the turning of the tides during the First Incursion, and many more. How true any of these claims are is impossible to tell without knowing the true capabilities of both the necklace and The First Queen.

Summary

The First Queen's Necklace is said to hold immense power of water and earth. It is said that it was forged by the greatest silversmith of the Age with the finest jewels and enchanted by the most powerful of mages as a courting gift to the First Queen. She wore it everyday as a sign of her acceptance and, after the death of The First King, a sign of her ever-lasting love.   So great was her love that the already powerful enchantments were made even stronger. So much so that when the murderers of her husband returned in an attempt to remove her family from power, she cracked the seafloor beneath their tails and the water dragged them down as it rushed to fill new space, creating what would become the Great Divide. She wiped their names from history and knowledge until not even their own families would claim them.   So great was her rage that the seas of the Realm frothed and twisted like a storm underwater, changing the sea floor around her. Her rage did not abate, not even when her ministers asked, when her soldiers asked, when her people asked. It only stopped when her children, fearful and wary, approached her and asked why her necklace was cracking. To change from an empowerment of love to an empowerment of hate damaged both the necklace and the enchantments, almost shattering the Queen's greatest memento.

Historical Basis

While it is unlikely that this is true, of the few surviving maps of the pre-Convergence  Mer Realm, the oldest show that the area containing the Great Divide as a massive reef instead of the deep sea trench. The first of the maps to have the Great Divide is dated nearly 1,000 years pre-Convergence and has a second name underneath, the Queen's Wrath. No others have this second name.

Lost Artifacts

After the Convergence, some of the most powerful artifacts in the Realms became lost, taken by the Void Creatures or hidden in the dungeons that sprung up.
Of lost artifacts, this one is considered one of the most powerful should it exist. The question of it's existence, however, prevents it from being on the list of lost artifacts, even if most consider it one of them.
