Mana Delirium Condition in The Realms | World Anvil

Mana Delirium

In the aftermath of The Convergence , a great many things ended up changing. Trade routes once open were now closed, as the people explored their new, greatly diminished Realms. Families were shattered, both by death and by the Void Mist. Of the survivors, a great many dealt with new levels of pain as they dealt with a new condition called Twisted Mana.   To stabilize the mana of the afflicted, a group of Alchemists came up with a new potion that would temporarily stabilize the body's mana. It was officially called Negavation, but would soon become all but synonymous with the name of its unexpected side effect. The side effect, named Mana Delirium, is not contagious, as it is caused only ingesting too much of the potion in too quick a time. It is, however, addictive, especially to those with high amounts of pain.   Mana Delirium offers an hours long 'high,' during which no pain can be felt and the afflicted feels as if they have an infinite well of mana and an invulnerable body. Because of this, it becomes impossible to tell whether or not the body is injured and how severe the injury is. As a result, the long-term effects can vary based on what, exactly, happens to the afflicted. Commonly, it results in aggravation of Twisted Mana, ruined mana channels, and loss of limbs, especially after long term affliction.   As the choice is either chronic pain or addiction, treatment of Mana Delirium is a delicate balancing act. On one hand, enough Negavation must be consumed to deal with Twisted Mana, but on the other, not enough to cause Mana Delirium. As such, it is a constant check on the reactions and keeping an eye out on when the invulnerability rears it's head.
