Genasi
'I was one of a number of genasi in my home village, actually. It was a desert oasis, the source of the oasis actually being a breach to the Plane of Water, letting it touch many of us. Then one day the breach widened. Now there's a lake, where the village once was. We genasi got out fine, but many of our parents didn't. We all went our separate ways, tried to forget that old place. I'm glad I settled here, though. It's peaceful, and I can use my blessings to my advantage.' - Flow, fisherIn some areas of the world, the veil that seperates the Material Plane from the other planes is thin, and the energies of these alternate worlds can seep in. Often, these energies will affect unborn mortals - those touched by the energies of the Elemental Planes before birth become genasi. They will have a number of physical aspects relating to the element they're touched by, and have a natural affinity for that element which may manifest in a number of ways - those touched by fire often have red skin and blazing eyes, and may be able to exert some control over fire, or those touched by water will have blue-green skin, and breathe water as air.
Basic Information
Ecology and Habitats
What environment a genasi prefers varies depending on which element they're touched by - air genasi prefer high altitudes and cold environments, water prefer damp, coastal environments, earth often prefer to live below ground, and fire genasi much prefer hot environments
Dietary Needs and Habits
Genasi typically have dies similar to that of their parent species, but may prefer additional, unusual food. Notably, earth genasi often like to consume small amounts of rock, and water genasi show a marked preference for fish.
Biological Cycle
Genasi age and mature at the same rate as their parent species, though tend to live a little while longer.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
Genasi have facial features mostly similar to their parent species, though they often have unusual hair, eyes, and skin, related to their elemental influence.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Genasi are typically given names in the tradition of their parent species, but may have names related to their elemental heritage.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Genasi speak the language of their parent species, and also have a natural affinity for Primordial.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
When not living among their parent species, genasi often show a preference for high magic, such as interplanar travel, likely related to their extraplanar origins - many of history's most influential planar magi have been genasi.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Whether genasi are accepted or shunned by the community they're born into depends almost solely on the culture they're born into.
Genetic Ancestor(s)
Lifespan
Slightly longer than their parent species
Average Height
Similar to their parent species
Average Weight
For fire and water genasi, similar to their parent races. Earth genasi are generally significantly heavier, and air genasi significantly lighter.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Air genasi typically have pale, somewhat purple-tinted skin. Water genasi will often have blue or green skin. Earth genasi often have dark, grey skin. Fire genasi usually have skin that is some shade of red.
