Mental characteristics

Personal history

Torin was born in Brightwood Village, which was a shock to his mother as his father was entirely paralysed from a climbing accident. This brought an immediate cloud of shame and suspicion to his mother's conduct, which for her was short-lived as subsequently died during Torin's birth.
With his father unable to raise him, none in the clan wanted to take on a suspected bastard - so was sent at the age of 2 to live with his unmarried uncle Brovdar Brightwood in Thornbul Village, being raised as a miner.

Sexuality

Such matters confuse and scare Torin.

Education

Was taught everything he knows by his uncle, though is very stubborn and only really learned what he wanted to learn. Is skilled in the art of breaking rock apart in many creative and crafty ways, even though he lacks the "academic" knowledge others may possess.

Employment

Mining apprentice to his uncle in the Whitethorn Mine and mainly is tasked with working on breaking open new copper veins.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Being accepted by Clan Thornbul
  • Recognised as one of the most talented miners in the village, second only to his uncl

Failures & Embarrassments

Torin holds irrational and complicated feelings about the questionable circumstances of his birth, feeling both embarrassments of the supposed infidelity but also anger at the lack of information he has on it and the treatment given to him by the Brightwood Village

Mental Trauma

Knowing that his mother died giving birth to him

Intellectual Characteristics

Often described as a pickaxe, Torin has the potential to be sharp and effective when used correctly but becomes duller much faster when not used on the right target. He can put his hyperfocused knowledge to very effective use, but that is regularly overshadowed due to his quick temper and defaulting to "brute force" overcompensation. He is reluctant to learn new things unless they are made incredibly relatable.
"Never have I met a boy whom so quickly changes from anger when breaking rock, to joy in finding some with such subtle differences, then promptly back to anger in trying to break apart this discovery" - Herah Brightwood

Morality & Philosophy

  • Judge nobody by who their family are or where they may have come from
  • An elf who can mine is more a dwarf than a dwarf who cannot
  • Every life has some level value
