Altariel Starisle

Like all residents of Dinalagoswen, Altariel was superstitious of the mainland. Her people have a collective memory of the hungry night howls that cut like ice before you were to become one of the sets of teeth in the forest. But here there is only the wind and the water, the bounty of the sea and cold hardy plants that provide enough to live in this hard but safe place. Altariel's family was the first to find this place, and hold both it and the sea that surrounds it close to heart. So when a living storm blew in from the sea, she was drawn to it in a way she had never felt, as if her soul had come alive and taken wing. Of course, she found out the next day the same could be said of most of the fair men and women of the isle, but in the end, she was the only one who found herself with child, which all involved considered the blessing of the sea god. They were not wrong, as the child grew to have the same water magic, was able to foretell events on the island, and could touch the ground to grow plants the isle had never seen before. Her son would grow to become governor of the island, where he remains to this day, although Altariel has long passed her mortal life.
