Orbital Defense Platforms

Orbital Defense Platforms, or ODPs for short, are massive, often unmanned defense satellites placed around a planet for orbital defense. The armament and range of these weapons varies depending on the design, with the Surtur-class ODP being the most widely used in the Rabian Delta. Using advanced VI technology dozens of these platforms can be slaved to a master satellite creating a network of ODPs. ODPs networked in this way can coordinate their systems to overlap and fill holes in the field of fire.
An ODP Network was most famously employed by the residents of Polymen during the ongoing conflict in the Thorhill System. Although expensive to lease and maintain, for centuries the Ritans were unable to land any strike craft or even engage Polymen vessels near the planet on account of the ODPs. In the end, the Ritans would have the final word as they were able to identify the Command and Control satellite and bring it down, effectively blinding the network long enough for them to destroy almost all of the stations.
